break in period?
 

just picked up my 8 a week ago, wanted to know if you guys have any advice for the breaking in of the car? the dealer didn't tell me much, so i thought i'd ask you guys? how did u break in the car?

600 miles seems to be the norm. Bottom line: don't do anything ridiculous, ie: racing the engine, clutch drops, not warming her up, etc... Just be nice and easy for awhile. BTW, if you want a little more in-depth answer, you can do a search under "break in" you should come up with some decent posts. There should be one a few threads down in the discussion area right now.

babied mine for the first 600miles as per owner's man (see page 7 of section 4, hey i sound like a bookworm huh?). got mine 12/17/03. at first took it real easy on my 8 but now have 1800 miles. loving it and comfortably driving it like its HOT!

i know watcha mean tho, ive never owned a rotary engine b4 and want to take care of it, i skimmed thru my owners manual bc dealership didnt explain anything except $$$. id like some pointers also.

so i guess hitting 100 was not a good idea since i got it on 2/7/04 and only have 160 miles on it

I haven't taken delivery of mine yet (hopefully it's on its way to th e port in Seattle now), but I don't plan to baby it too much based on what I've read here - I will take it to 5-6000 RPM to get those auxiliary ports open a bit (6-speed only) and get leaner mixtures into the engine, not just the low-RPM rich mixtures.
Don't forget, at 6000 RPM, the rotors are only revolving at 2000 RPM, so you ain't gonna fry anything.

That said, you should also be aware that other components, esp. the brakes, need breaking in as well. So no hard stops for the first 500 miles, unless of course it's to avoid an collision or running a red light.
