Break-in: I am hearing an incredibly beautiful noise when over 7000 rpm

Hi, all

I am breaking in my RX8 iaw Racing Beat procedure. Since I've done 2000 km (1250 Mi), I allow 6000 rpm, no top gear, no full throttle, no engine lugging. I ocassionally get a bit past there, but today, exiting a tight hairpin in 2nd gear, I reached 7000 for some instants, and the noise was beautiful: still smooth but much deeper. Sorry for not considering it strange or getting afraid of some machanical failure...

PS: my crazy salesman advised not to exceed 4000-5000 rpm until 3100 Miles. Any clue on why? :nono:

Anticipation makes all good things better of course.... your ultimate fulfillment awaits your some 2500 rpm ahead :cwm27: . Dream on for longer or maybe ... just maybe sneak (only) one head long rush up there, just one mind you, I dare you :mdrmed: .

1200 miles, I'd say it's broken in and ready for revvin'. I thought most people only considered the first 600 miles as break in..

it's amazing how different salesman can think than the next. Mine told me there was no break-in. LoL. Funny enough though, the most extensive break-in procedure i've ever heard of allows the last stage of free revving of 8-9K @ 3000 miles. Your right to be skepical of that...no clue

and yes, the music that flows from that engine after 7K is almost like a symphony of sheer eurphoria. Glad your enjoying it for all :ylsuper:

So did my sales man, he said with this car if you drive like a granny it'll get messed up. Also this is not a regular piston engine where all the parts need to get lil smoothened out by breaking in slowly.

It does make sense considering the only moving parts in the this engine are just 3

2500-3000 miles is the break in period of the Rx8 and you do have to drive the car like a baby during that.

No, she is not. After breaking-in 7 motorcycles (yes, they still require breaking in), and reading the opinions on rotary engine break-in in this forum, I decided to go by the Racing Beat procedure. To minimize carbon build up I use the cleanest burning gas available here in Spain (98 Octane Repsol - those of you following MotoGP may know the marque).

And of course my break-in is not "grandma-driving", but generally accepted and proven break-in procedures based on low and variable loads, variable speed, frequent shifting, no overheating and short thermal cycles. In that plan, some short "excursions" are not only allowed, but necessary.

And refraining from revving this engine builds the character...
