I'm probably getting a brand new 8 tomorrow w/ almost no miles on it. What should I watch for as I'm driving it back home?

When clocked at 250km/hr the acused offered the excuse - "Racing Beat recommended this as part of the break in proceedure !"

So, I asked the tech that worked w/ the 8s at the dealer today and he said there's no need to worry about the break-in. "The guys at our tech shop did a computer thingy(for lack of the word i can't remember) and you basically don't have to worry about it.

Is he full of BS or what? I kept it at 4k and under the way home though just to be safe, I did get it past that once.

Dont lie. you know on your way home you at least opened her up once. hahaha

Yeah, they were full of crap. I mean, they assume that your driving it like a normal person will. as long as your driving it chill for a bit, thats cool.

the main purpose for the "chill-drive" is so that the computer learns the proper way to perform. Yes, its possible that they could have set the computer to react certain ways (like in any car when you 1st buy it) but those things change with the way you drive.

I know some friends that have this routine that when they 1st get a car... and expect to run it, they tune it or whatever, then they have this 3 hour proccess of reving at certain RPMs

like they rev at 3k RPM for 30 mins
then let it rest, then again at 4k RPM or something, its weird, but they say that the Nascar people do it or something, and it teaches the car how to react faster to...... who knows. but i think thats stupid too. lol

Maybe I am taking this COMPLETELY the wrong way, but by this comment, I'm taking it as if your saying..the main purpose of the BREAK-IN is to let the computer learn how to react?! NO!

The main purpose of the break-in is to allow the engine to..break-in. The corner seals need time to move in their grooves, as do the apex seals, springs, etc..

They can't just be bashing on immediately, or else you risk them possibly sliding out, having a catostrophic binding, etc!!

agreed, also is its a stick shift i'd never pound on a fresh clutch for at least 500 miles.

I didnt say it was the ONLY reason...
but yeah, i was wrong. It is "A" reason. but yes, its mainly to work the cars muslces. Almost as if you had an injury and you have to slowly start walking again little by little. If you dont, you risk breaking something.
