Brakes Resurfaced

So i went into my Mazda dealer 2day to get a oil change and tell them about the brake squeal. Well unstead of putting new brake pads, they resurfaced the brake rotors. so... is this good or bad? will my brakes squeal again?

Resurfacing the rotors will provide a fresher surface for the pads to bite against. The cause of brake squeal is subtle vibration between the pads and the rotors.

They could squeal again as the rotors wear.

Your breaks will not squeal... rotor resurfacing is very common... sometimes your breaks wear just a little bit unevenly causing squeal and in more extreme circumstances shaking... this could be due to heavy load conditions... they should have put new pads in along with the resurfacing though... I would make sure they did so. If they just resurface without putting new pads in, then the purpose of the resurfacing is nulled.

It might temporarily solve the problem, but not sure if it will come back or not. The tsb calls for new upgraded pads. They gave me pads and lightly resurfaced my rotors.

Right. The pads developed grooves in them to match the grooves on the rotors. Now the pads still with the grooves will meet a smooth roto surface. So for awhile the pads will have partial contact with the rotors until the high points are worn smooth hopefully. Yes, they should have put on new pads bummer they did not. I would install them myself if you have the tools or have a brake shop do it or if you think all is ok then go with the temp fix they provided. You shouldn't get squeals for awhile I think.

awww so this means i'm gonna get squeals again?
maybe i should tell them to install new brake pads since i'm going back there again to get my console fixed. but i hate troubling people, makes me look like an ass

I had the brake squeal problem. I went into the dealership with the TSB in hand, but all they did was file my rotors. I could tell that the filing didn't fix the problem the first time I used my brakes after picking up the car.

My new brake pads are on order.

k then next time i go in i'ma tell them to get new brake pads, how long does it take? i waited 3 and a half hours today. i swear it was the longest wait of my life. i didnt kno you had to tell them a head of time if i needed a loaner car or not and no1 could pick me up since my dealers an hour away.

You should ask for a free loaner, its part of warranty service and as long as they have one available. Its ok to bitch, its your money that you put down.

Next time have the TSB in hand and get new pads, Mazda extended the service Bulletin to 50k miles or 36 months, whichever comes first. So you still got some time.
