bottoming out springs...In Seat !!!
 

Ok, I already learned that mx5 plastic will mark if you look at it wrong. So far I have found the plastic in the new rx8 a vast improvement in the 'wear factor' department.

I also read that mazda does not spend much money for leather interior seats based on users saying they had to have it replaced under warranty.

Thus brings my problem to light...
are there other 07 gt rx8 owners out there that feel that your back is pressing against the frame/wiring in the seat back?

It sort of reminds me of what one would feel if the shocks of a car bottomed out over a hard bump but instead it is ones back that feels like it is bottoming out against the seat back. Is mazda making the form stuffing so cheaply that one feels frame/wiring in the seat back now days?

Anyone else encountered this issue with a gt 07 model and if so what if anything did mazda due to adddress the issue?
Honetstly this is the first car I have had this kind of seat back issue with.

Damn! I have an 04 with leather and it feels extremely comfortable! Doesnt sound normal.

We love the leather seats in our 07 GT.

anyway, back to question at hand.

I weigh 195 lbs....need to lose weight but my god I'm not 300 plus so would expect the seat to feel comfortable, which it does at first but as soon as you start to move around or are pushed back into it as you drive (not due to thrust of driving super fast, one would not expect to feel the framing or wiring within the seat.

So should it matter if I take it back to where I purchased it or just my local mazda dealer which is closer?

Last, does the site offer any 'thread post' listing of dealers 'by state' that might offer better/best service or is it just a case of rolling the dice. I live in tampabay florida though the st pete or clearwater dealers would be closest to my location.

well, as I said above, I have an 04 with the "crappy easy-to-wear slippery leather" and I'm 6'4'' 245lbs and they are more comfortable on long trips than my 06 Impala which is a boat. I think if you feel like your seats are "bottoming out" somethings wrong! Ive never heard a complaint about these seats! In fact, motor trend said the interior was more comfortable than the 350Z, and S2000 (just so u have an unbiased opinion). So if you can say it feels like youre hitting the seatbacks or "bottoming out", something isnt right.

One review of the RX-8 complained about there being some kind of crossbar at the bottom of the seat back. Not sure if it's really a crossbar, but I can feel something across there.

However...because of some lower back problems, I need to stick a foam wedge where the seat bottom meets the back. With that in place, I don't feel anything. Seat is firm.

At 235 pounds, the seat is a bit snug on the sides, but that's not Mazda's fault. A buddy who weighs about 280 complained that the side bolsters squeezed his butt cheeks together and made it impossible to fart. Maybe bad from his point of view, but as the owner of that seat (and sharer of the air in the cabin) that seemed like a plus.

The way I have my seat set makes the 'bar' that Ken mentions noticable, but not at all problematic. If what you're describing is at the bottom it may be normal and you just need to adjust around it.

Mine's an 05 w/cloth seats, but the seat design is the same regardless of the cover.

well, usually with the lumbar all the way out, you don't feel that bar, or just sit normal and not at a gangsta lean

I will try the lumbar setting so it is enaged just a bit to see if that helps. Thought I was lossing my mind for a moment feeling that cross bar but since others too have felt it I see I'm not along.

Nope, increasing the lumbar support does little to prevent the feeling of bottoming out against the seat back...though did not adjust to to a large/full out setting.

Guess I'm just one of those that finds the stock gt leather driving seat to be unacceptable in their top of the line rx8 model. Actually it is a very bad seat so far as that goes. Guess, unless a gt has features one really wanted, I would suggest those looking do a really good test ride in a gt seat before buying this model over a cloth touring model.

Then again maybe the sport or touring model seat is just as bad just in cloth instead of leather.

So has anyone done a mod on the driver seat to address this issue. Don't know if it is 07 specific or if earlier models also had the same lame form support inside the seat (meaning next to nothing it would appear in the seat back)....
