Blue RX-8s and bird droppings

My 8 sits in a large blacktop parking lot (~300 cars) next to a laboratory which is inside a chemical plant. Just about every other day I have bird droppings on the car. I never had this problem with my black pickup that I drove before my 8. I have moved the car around to other parts of the parking lot, but this does not seem to help. I have never seen a bird sitting on the car when I look out the window of the lab to see my car. I'm thinking about buying a cover. Does any other blue owners have this problem?

Actually it's part of a vast right-wing conspiracy! j/k

I have titanium and have a had a few poops myself, but I think I just notice more since it's a new car.

Buy the car cover. Bird poop is hell on paint.

One caveat: only get the cover if the people you share the lot with are normal, law abiding human beings. If you suspect there are jealous cretins lurking amongst them, forget the cover. It will only enrage the jealous types, causing them to mess with your car.

oh yeah...that car cover is by no means for public use whatsoever...thats just asking for trouble.

First off the birds are jealous that they cannot drive such a machine and therefore they will let you know this by bombing your car. Second the birds belong to a union which in turn as most unions do support the democratic party therefore I would find it odd that it would be a right wing conspiracy and hereby propose that it is a liberal left wing attack on your vehicle. :-)

I have the same problem with my black 8. My wife and I went to the shore last week. Not even half an hour after checking into our hotel, my car was covered in bird crap. I washed off what I could and the rest got cleaned when we got home. Right after cleaning the car, a bird crapped on it.

I think it's because it's so shiny that the birds think it looks like water, so it's safe to crap there. Either that or they just like crapping on RX-8s.

Hot tip:

When you park in a parking lot, and you choose that spot out there where there's a grassy island and only one side is left vulnerable to door dinks, so you park it real close to the grassy island side to maximize the distance to that empty parking space on the other side - you with me still?

OK, here's the kicker - LOOK UP. There might be a parking lot light planted in that grassy island, right? Guess what sits atop parking lot lights? And guess what they do while sitting around up there? Take it from my experience. :(

It's the RX8...I just traded in my Black Grand Prix GTP for the Silver RX8. Park it in the same spot...to no avail....the birds love it.

I was just finishing a Sunday afternoon wash job in my shady driveway and preparing to give it a few squirts of Eagle spray wax and then chamois it dry when a huge splat hit the passenger door just below the window and dribbled halfway down ..obscenely..caught it while it was wet and had it off with the hose toute de suite. A second later, another deposit. And I thought that my Brilliant Black Miata was a bird crap magnet. Note to self: shady driveway is that way because of very large and bushy, overhanging tree branches. Duh!

I would tend to agree with you more if it wasn't for the fact that on all occasions where my car got crapped on, it was a wide open space with no overhangs.

I've just resigned myself to the fact that birds just like to crap on our cars.

Racer X-8 06-28-2004 03:40 PM

Oh yeah, and they usually pick just one light to party on. Believe me, you will know if you've parked under that one! And yes, I washed my car meticulously that day.

Genom 06-28-2004 04:36 PM

I washed my car yesterday. Within 15 minutes 3 birds pooped on the hood and 1 on the roof.

I cleaned it up, and as I am driving around last night a damn pigeon smacks right into my windshield. Damn flying rats.

Oh and this morning it rained for all of 5 minutes. Just enough to mess it up.

And I forgot to fold my mirrors in, so this stupid cardinal that nests near my office saw itself and of course, had to flap and swauck and poop all over the side of the car.

I HATE BIRDS.

TownDrunk 06-28-2004 04:49 PM

In almost a year of ownership, I've had a bird poop on my car exactly twice. Maybe they don't like yellow.

Bees on the other hand... My car is a fuggin bee magnet. I sit at a stop light and I have to roll up the windows and close the roof because bees converge on my car. It's unnatural.

Adamrotor 06-28-2004 07:01 PM

Well I washed my car one day still at the car wash, I turn one way and what happens to be on my car a big shit!!! LOL, I cleaned it right away, another was right when i stopped on a red light under a bridge, and again a big sit right on my window!!!!LOL

Chino075 06-28-2004 07:45 PM

I should say i just had 3 lil' mini ones the size of rat poo on my blue 8. But on my old green accord which is like the nordic green but lighter, it was like a bathroom for them. I swear, 3 cars parked one in front of me and behind....out of all the 3 cars i get hit the most. Conspiracy? Damn, yea....i use to get hit EVEN when it was parked under no tree whatsoever. Thats why, no matter what i had to avoid the green (i think that if bird see green = ocean water......bird: "ooo, look a lil' mini pool ocean there, let me take a dump....*splat*").

If i'd only had a bb gun.....*sigh*
