Does anyone else always get their tail pipes covered in soot? I find myself cleaning them often. Is it all the oil it burns? Or is there a problem with mine? Or am I just paranoid?

 

its you :P im kidding we all get ... ive seen ppl get it in their aftermarket exhuasts too just gotta clean the baby i do it every 2 weeks

 

I was cleaning my car last night and almost turned the sponge black trying to clean it out. Gave up after a while tring to get the inside somewhat clean. Then I realized it wasn't worth it because when I go out again it will be black.

 

Get yourself some nevr dull. They will be shiny again after some of that!

 

It's just hte exhaust...all cars do it.

I never use a sponge because I figure I'll ruin it. I use paper towels and like formula 409 or some other household cleaner

I'm sure Neverdull is great, but I just use a little Zaino Z2 inside the pipes, buff it off, two more apps and not a spot of carbon accumulates even after three months now....works like a charm

 

INSIDE the pipes .. now there's an interesting idea. Gotta try that one.

I'm not a Zaino guy --- is that Zaino's "wax" (as in final finish shine coating) or something else?

Also, I'm continually amazed at how much of that soot accumulates on the back of the car after a day of driving. Something about the aero of the car causes stuff to land back there.

 

i don't know whats worse on my car the exhaust or my wheels. After a few drives my wheels can have just as thick of a black coating(brake dust?) Im not sure what gets to me more!

 

Mine was even blowing out nasty black-condensation yesterday afternoon...

Z2 is indeed one of Zaino's "waxes", though technically not a wax as you know. It spreads easily with a soft wax applicator, dries quickly to a thin haze and gets rubbed off with a soft towel. Incredible stuff, even on a yellow.

Z2 on the exhaust tips? That's a GREAT idea. If the snow around here ever melts long enough for me to get my RX-8 out of the garage I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks! (Hmm, do I have to claybar first?)

 

Cool, the paranoia is subsiding. Yeah I get a lot of break dust too, but it's fun to clean or etch "RX-8" when you don't have time for a thourough, thouruo, thouero, thoughro, (I forgot how to spell!!!) thorough cleaning.

 

As some have already noted on this web site- it appears Penzoil (5/20- soots a lot more than some others- such as Castro GTX 5/20

 

I guess you could clay first, but I didn't bother for inside the pipes. The Z2 polish creates a nice frictionless surface which the carbon doesn't adhere to.

 

Bought some Never Dull today and that stuff works like a charm. The pipes look brand new, and that stuff comes pretty cheap.

 

While cleaning mine today, I was wondering if anyone has just painted their exhaust flat black?

 

Everday or two, I wipe them down with a wet paper towel. Works fine.
