Big surprise in air filter box!

I am tired but not too tired to post what I just found. I have a 2004, velocity red gt with 53 k miles that has been sitting up for about 13 months. I am in the final process of a complete restoration. I was going to make it into a race car but decided since it was paid for to sell the BMW and restore the RX8 since times are tough. Anyway I just got it back from the Mazda dealer and shelled out 800 bucks for a FULL tune up, plugs, injectors, de-carbon, coils, oil, filters, tranny and brake flush..the works. Anyway I decided this afternoon to spoil the 8 and buy a K&N air filter. I buy it and just got home and went to put it in and guess what I find? No not a used air filter..it was new.. think lower..took the air filter out and theres a 3 inch by 4 inch old wasp nest in the air box with a bunch of other old leaves and crud! Talk about a sorry mechanic! C'mon man! Take out the friggin wasp nest will ya!?! Anyway.. just thought I would share this.

yea here is "part" of it. I had to go out in the pine straw with a flashlight to find this for you guys to see. I chucked it without thinking of getting a snap of it.

P.S. I almost forgot... There was a full blown birds nest "under" the airbox on the plastic shelf area. I had to dig that out by hand then blast the rest out with my yard blower! I guess the mechanic thought "yard" work wasn't in his job description.

you would have gotten more use out of the 800 bucks by setting it on fire, at least that would have provided warmth. I would bet the plugs are still the same, the decarb was never done, and the coils are factory.
