Big brake kits suggestions
 

I am thinking of doing a big brake upgrade later this year, and i'm wondering, what kits do you suggest ?

- The rx8 is not my daily car
- I don't track my rx8
- spirited driving style (nothing extreme, just occasional powerslides and drifts)

Giving this info, I think that i don't need a extreme high performance kit. Just a reliable kit, that looks good.

Also, what are your thoughts on the D2 big brake kit ?

There are only 2 reasons to put a BBK on an RX-8: looks and heat dissipation. The stock brakes have plenty of stopping power, even for track use. I think kits that use Willwood calipers are the most cost effective, but I haven't looked into it in a long time.

You could do a lot for the price of a big brake kit, but if you must... D2 and K-sport is fine for the "not too expensive, looks good" usecase. Don't think they'll brake better than the brakes you have now (with proper pads). I'm pretty sure they use the same caliper for all applications. You might find your brake bias front to back changes after you install them, but have no first-hand experience on an rx8.

Be careful with what size you choose, once you go over 330-340mm you might get into problems fitting the stock 18" wheels over the brake.

The fancier brands put a little more thought into how the kit is engineered to reduce weight and apply proper brake force for the specific model car.

why? stock brakes are fine don't bother. stock brakes are more than capable of locking up at 100km/h so what does that tell you? tires are the limiting factor.

Im considering them from a purely aestethic point of view. I want the brakes to visually fit with 19'' wheels. So i'm aiming from something between 360mm-380mm or even 400mm.

I have the Wildwood 14 inch rotor kit from Goodwin Racing.

I got a brake downgrade by fitting some nice looking wilwood calipers (I got them cheap). I know better now. :(

The only Wilwood caliper that would work well on our cars is the 6 pot that matches our stock caliper area. None of the 4 pot ones do that.
