BHR ignition kit or new starter???
 

title says it. I (like many others) have a very slow starting car. plugs and batter is fine but i think i need an 06+ starter, cause i have a slower one on my 05. but idk if thatll do it or if i need a new ignition kit like the BHR one, or perhaps both.

Have you been under the car to see if you have the old starter or the updated one?

not yes, i think they changed it mid 05. i was just assuming it was the slower one because its SLOW sometimes

i always let it sit for 30 seconds in park before i turn it off and i avoid turning it off on a cold engine

What was the build date on the car? You can find that on the drivers side plate if you open the door......that is, if you don't want to climb under and look at the part number on the starter itself.

04 and I went with the coils. I'll get the starter when I burn this poc out.

i just want to know if i can save my self buying the ignition kit and just go with a newer starter. or if i need the kit or both

I would go with the ignition.

Hotter spark, cleaner plugs less chance of flood and easier starting.

Extra performance too.

This car always starts slow. Go to a club member meet. You will see.

well for one. it does get cold here. we had 6 inches of snow this winter in 3 days.
i will prob go with the ignition kit.

and i have been to meets and i am FULLY aware that renesis engines take longer to start. but when you have to crank for 5 seconds you start to wonder.

And that's over 3 days. That's only 2" a day. I'd be more worried about the other drivers than the weather itself. Before the change came out, my car stated every time during the winter of 04/05. I got the updated starter in an attempt to keep from replacing an engine. In the summer of 05.

haha i know its not alot, im just saying. on occasion it does get cold. im gonna save my sheckles and get the BHR kit. if that doesnt help, ill get a new starter. if that doesnt help... ill just get a civic :D:

Yeah go with the BHR Ignition Kit. You only need the starter for a few seconds to start the car. The BHR Ignition will have you smiling ear to ear all the way up to 9k rpms

well considering you would be gaining from me getting the ignition kit. im gonna take you word for it. I'm looking to upgrade the ignition kit eventually i just wanted to wait till this summer when i make some cash. i can get the starter now though.

as for the ap. im running a 4port AT. idk if that would be worth the money.

As CRH said, get the starter first and replace that old slow one you have now. Then when you want/have money, get the Ignition kit. And yes the AP will help the AT. I had an AT and the AccessPort helps with engine longevity and all around performance.

i have heard both sides about the AP. did you pay for the MM diagnostic?? or whatever they do, i still am a little fuzzy on what they actually do

yes - ray is always good for that. he would benefit from us purchasing parts from him but rather than just hawking the parts, he'll let you know what you need and don't need even if it means losing a sale. it's also what made me comfortable buying the BHR ignition kit (which i still have to find 2 free moments to finally install :cussing:) and will buy any other parts from him that he can get a hold of.

hey guys! im a newbie when it calls for the technicals of rx8s. i have an 04 with 30,000 miles on it. i store it away from the ohio winters! now that its spring time, the past two weeks my engine light has came on twice when ive started it. the first time i just reset it seeing if it would come on again. it ran great, no issues what so ever until this afternoon when i started it, it came on. i was kind of surprised because its not like it backfires or takes a long time to start. should i try upgrading the started or ignition kit? clean the coils? ive worked on cars my whole life, the rx8 is just different to me. thanks!

Thats once of the reasons I got my 6MT... so much better, lol whew, but yes listen to the BHR guys, they know whats up.

As for Easy having to pay MM, I think not since he is apart of BHR.

Go get the starter first, Maintence first, Performance/Aesthetics last... You want your car to last right?;)

Seriously go get the code read.................then we will know which direction to point you in! Anything other than that is a pure guess at this point. It could be as easy as the gas cap isn't on tight or much, much worse..........but............at least it's running okay, so that's a good sign.
FYI........There are places that will read it for free.
