I've been using RON98 fuel for a while now (Shell Optimax). Australian RX8s are specified to use RON95 minimum. Some people in Australia have experienced pinging using RON91, so therefore I would not use fuel that could possibly harm the engine. RON98 is what I've been using and will continue to do so.... We also have Shell Optimax Extreme RON100....

Basically, use the best fuel for your car... and keep it revvin'....

FYI as of today: (AUD)
PULP (95) $110.4 cents per litre.
Optimax 98 cost 119.3 cents per litre.
Optimax Extreme is $122.3 cents er litre.

We all know this car drinks juice... but a smile on your face everytime you drive it is "PRICELESS"!

Ah, another thread on what kind of gas to use. How refreshing!

BTW, I think the OP's octane system (in europe) is different from US. I think 98 corresponds to 93 or sth like that. So 95 min may be like our 91 min recommended.

Here is a chart and info that correlates the different rating systems:

Thanks for the link! At long last, I understand the mystic runes on the pump about the octane being computed with the "(R + M) / 2" method!
