Best Custom Intake

3 Attachment(s)
So I took the liberty of finally posting this up, in my and a few others opinion pretty neat. So I live in Pakistan where stock parts are expensive and aftermarket mods are ridiculous. Luckily labor is cheap so used that to my advantage and had this made for myself.

Basically its 2 simota filters which doesn't sound like much but hooked to a short pipe.
Also had the heat shield attached, and had the cover made too.

My spray painting skills aren't too hot so it looks a bit choppy, but you'll get the concept.

The sound is amazing, and I think It looks better than most intakes.
Im quite confident in that last statement

total cost: 90$

But really ...

I wonder what that is doing to the maf readings.
No really ... would have loved to see a before and after log

DarthRX8 03-22-2013 03:48 PM

You should not have done this! Even with that shield you have just created a hot air intake

Your stock intake flows much better than what you have created...

Check out our FS section for a used AEM or Racing Beat intake if you really want a good aftermarket one.

A for effort...

F for functionality...

Sorry bro.

RXeligion 03-22-2013 06:21 PM

I'm not trying to put down your effort, but I hope you've kept the OEM intake.

ehsankhan 03-22-2013 07:07 PM

Why is it bad? All I saw was better intake sound and better performance. It pulls a lot harder off the line and sounds like a jet.

RadRedR3 03-22-2013 07:13 PM

Why is it bad?

Trust us, it doesn't pull harder off the line. You're wanting it to pull harder so you "feel" it. Butt dynos are notoriously inaccurate.

Second, it's sucking totally hot air from inside the engine compartment which is horrible for performance. Not to mention that I can't imagine what the airflow across the MAF looks like which is going to be detrimental to performance.

But hey, if it sounds like a jet, cool.

I thought the exact same thing, especially since the sensor appears to line up perfectly with the center joint.

I'll wager she's lean which will likely equate to a couple more HP right up until the point it detonates.

ehsankhan 03-22-2013 07:43 PM

Okay fine heat is one thing I can understand, but that can be fixed with exhaust wrap, no? I don't understand what it would do the maf, for example? And I understand whatever I say about performance cannot be proven, so no point in that. Why is wcs's intake better, because I actually got my idea of a dual pod filter from his picture in another thread?

RadRedR3 03-22-2013 07:53 PM

You're missing the point of WCS' finely honed sense of humor. Lol. That atrocity is NOT his intake. He's being sarcastic and the picture he posted is a fine example of everything NOT to do. Unfortunately, it seems you used that picture as a design inspiration.

ShellDude 03-22-2013 07:55 PM

i really feel for you man. You've opened the door for a huge amount of hate here. hopefully folks don't hit a man when he's down, even if he doesn't realize it.

Sucking hot air from under the hood is hot whether your exhaust is wrapped or not. A true cold air intake (such as the stock one you removed to install your setup) will injest air from outside of the engine bay delivering new air at ambient temperature.

Placement of the MAF is key and its calibration is static -- unless you have the ability to flash your ECU ROM. By placing the it smack dab in the middle of your joiner it may now be reading less air than is actually being introduced and create a lean fuel condition. Lean AFR under load will kill a rotary.

Do you have an OBD2 reader? If so you really should take a look at your AFR as compared to your target AFR. FWIW you'll likely throw a lean CEL if it is way off.

Mr_Pieper 03-22-2013 07:58 PM

Mine has THREE filters. I win.

ehsankhan 03-22-2013 08:26 PM

I will get on that obd meter, but I meant exhaust wrap the pod area as in line the whole box are except the filters of course. Would that be any better?

ehsankhan 03-22-2013 08:27 PM

And I lol'd at myself, goodone wcs

I don't think so.. The best thing you can do is what was previously suggested Mazdaspeed or AEM... or back to stock. It's really hard to beat the OE design in a NA setup.

:bash:

This is why the knowledgeable should really watch what they say and do, because someone is going to misinterpret your subtle but blatant uniformed humor, and risk damaging something or trashing their engine.
