Best Air intake??

Whats the best air intake out there as far as sound and HP? I would like one thats louder than stock and sounds nice but not too loud. Rotary Extreme Cold Air Intake any good? It looks very nice with the aluminum and I like how it has a heat shield to keep the hot air out. They claim 8 to 12 hp gain at the wheels... sounds like a lot to me!

You want more sound at the engine intake or out the exhaust? Yeah the HP gain for an intake sounds like a commerical for that intake.

i like my Green drop in filter. Like Rotarygod i am not a fan of much else.. if you want sound go with the K&N if you want good flow and no MAF errors then go Green, or RB or even Mazda has a Hiflow drop in now..

I want more sound from the Intake. Thew does your Green drop in sound louder and nicer than stock? I hear drop ins don't increase the sound level at all. You've heard the K&N and you say it sounds good? Is that just the drop in or the full typhoon intake system? No one has the Rotary Extreme cold air intake?

I have the Rotary Extreme intake, I have very happy with it, it really "wakes up the engine" so you actually can hear it! definitely not overly loud either....as for performance, who knows...too small to feel a difference but I like how it looks and sounds.

Looks like the Rotary Extreme Intake is the best one for me then. Seems the K&N is too loud, and actually doesnt look as well made. Cwilliams so do you like the sound of it?

If a company is claiming 8-12 hp at the wheels from an intake I wouldn't buy andthing from them based on principle alone. There is no way in hell it's giving gains anywhere near that.

Honestly I think your money is better spent elsewhere, the stock intake system on the
RX-8 seems quite good. If you just want more noise maybe there is a silencer you can remove like there is for many other cars. It will give you more sound, but won't do things like screw with the maf sensor (will cause problem and even lose you some HP) like CAIs can do on many modern cars. If you still insist on getting a CAI then just listen to the guys that have them and make the best judgement you can, I don't have an RX-8, I'm just a troll :p

the Green does make a much louder intake sound.

And just so you know i can get you all the intakes even the HKS units.

But i still love my Green .. In CA i would get busted by a smog check if i replace mine with an after market unit .. or i would buy the HKS unit .
