New 8 6 spd owner, quick question

Quick question, I just bought my RX8 6 spd over the weekend and I have been revving it up maybe a bit more than I should, not too much but I have taken it to 7k a few times ( very hard to resist). I now have 300 miles in it and I have been driving very slowly. Have I totally messed up the engine?

I have had my 8 for two weeks today, and I just crossed 600 miles. I have not revved more that 6000 rpm yet, but was waiting till 600 miles. Then I went on the Racing Beat website. Their expert engineer states in his opinion you should not exceed 4000 rmp till over 1000 miles?

I will probably be conservative just in case. $00 more miles will go by quickly

yes, you are probably running on rounded out rotors. Lay out a smoke screen for us!

A friend of mine ran mine to redline several times the night I got it with no problems. Probably not too smart, but I came away clean from it.

When my friend bought his we took it out later that night.
We were redlining it and taking some nice turns.
The car probably had 300 miles on it at the time. And he has had not problems with his car.

Im not saying beat the **** out of it. Im just saying, your probably fine

The engine will not blow up if you redline it when under 600 miles. It's just suggested you take it easy the first 600 miles. You'd probably do more damage cruising at 70MPH constantly for 10 hours.

I have not heard of a single car having problems because it was driven hard when new. ALl the engine failures I know of where caused by parts defects.

Dont worry about it.

No your not messing up your engine. 7,000 is pushing it before break-in, but you should be fine. Just keep driving around and at about 600 miles you should be fully broken-in and free to take it to redline when the road is appropriate. Oh and congratulations onm your purchase! Glad to have you on the forum. Welcome to the club!

7000 once in a while is not pushing it. Otherwise a good 200 people from this forum alone would have problems with the car from it :D

I know I dont, as well as 3 or 4 other locals that had fun with it from day 1.

BTW, HS! Rodster! Still alive!

Thanks for the info.

I am really happy with this car. I am 30 yrs old, not into racing much, but I really appreciate how this car handles and moves, and I love the attention it brings. I feel that I got a 45k sports car for 32k (US).

Black 6 spd, tail, 8 speaker system (CD changer soon) accents, sunroof, all black leather

One thing I have noticed is the AC does not cool that much in idle. I am in S. Florida and it is damn hot but my Jeep Liberty cooled better. If I keep it above 4k rpm the AC is much colder. Anyone else experience this ?

Also, damn this bitch waste gas ( even driving slow), more than my Jeep and that post 16 mpg.

Just some thoughts, Still LOVE this car and I can't wait to wash it this weekend.
