Automatic RX8`s
 

Sorry to start up a New Topic,but could`nt find what I was looking for on the Search Section:banghead:

Back here in the UK,I have a 192ps 5 speed Manual Model,but due to health problems,I may have to switch back to a Automatic & not wanting to give up RX8 Ownership,I was wondering if any of you could tell me a little bit about the Auto Version?:)

I have made enquires on Importing from Japan a New RX8 R3 6 speed Auto/Paddle-Shift Model:) The Auto Version,is`nt Imported by Mazda back here in the UK,but a Specialist Dealer called TW Whites & Sons Import them instead:lol2::)

The R3 we get is the same Sport or GT Model you get here in the USA,as we do`nt get Base & Luxury Models!!

I'll give you what I've read about the differences - both in reviews of the RX-8 and opinions online. I've never driven the manual version so I can't speak from first hand experience. However, having driven manual vs. auto versions of other cars, I have to say it makes sense.

Bottom line - 2 different cars that look just alike. I have the auto version because neither my wife or daughter can drive a manual. It's still very fun to drive and it's fun to play around with the paddle shifters. They make the steering wheel look and feel more like an x-box controller than a steering wheel. And the manual paddle shift mode makes it much easier to do the redlining routine that is recommended here on this board as well. You won't be drag racing and beating any manual RX-8's with your auto version, however.

By the way, mine is a 4 speeed auto. Never heard of a 6 spd. auto. The manual is a 6.

6 speed auto is the later version. 2006 and later versions got the 6 speed auto, along with more ports on the engine I believe.

and the manuals have a carbonfiber drive shaft, versus the automatics regular (steel iron? idk) right?

No kidding... an "R3" with a 6-speed auto... hmph. It comes with the R3 ground effects, wheels and Recaro seats?

The R3 is Sold here only with the 6 speed Manual Box,but outside the UK in Righthand Drive Markets,the same car can also be ordered with the 6 speed Auto/Paddle-Shift Gearbox:)

As I had a Accident with my Knee,I can`t drive my Manual RX8 :rolleyes: ,so thats why I am interested in Auto Versions:)

I personally wouldn't get an 8 with an AT, even the updated 6AT. I'd choose a car with more torque for an AT.
