Automatic AC?!?!?!?

Ok, so this isn't a really big problem but it is annoying as hell and I was wondering if it happens to anyone else. And what will happen is I'll start my car up and the if I turn on the fan (like the heater cause it's like 20degrees outside) the AC will turn on automatically! Or if the fan is on when I start the car I get the same thing.
Any advice or anyone who has the same deal please let me know.

is the front windshield defroster on?

you know, I haven't paid that much attention, but that would make sense... I'll check it out and let you know.

Print this Service Bulletin:

and go have it fixed. I have the same problem with turning on cool and it blows hot or vice versa. Takes a long while before it changes.

On the Canadian models (and likely most of the US models) if you're directing heat to the floor or the window defrost the AC compressor will cycle. It is not cooling the car but instead the AC is acting as a dehumidifier so that the car doesn't fog up, or to clear fogging very quickly (which this system does very well).

Someone just asked this like 2 days ago...
It senses the humidity in the car, and turns on the AC to remove the moisture from the air so you dont fog up.
Mine does it all the time... even at -30C (yep, thats a minus sign).

Not to worry dude, its trying to help you (as annoying as it can be..)

Thanks for that answer, I thought it was an issue also. I even brought it in for service and they returned the car saying that it was working fine no other explanation even when I asked. I was pissed and felt that I was being blown off again by Mazda's crappy service. Now I know this is normal and have an explanation why. I wish Mazda's service would learn more about their own cars and relay that info. to the user.

You're welcome!
It would also help if the salesman had a clue when attempting to sell to you... pretty bad when we know more than they do :)

Dont even get me started on the service dept.... :spank:

Yeah, that all makes alot of sense... don't knock salesmen though they have to know about a shit ton of cars... I sell Ford and it's hard to keep up with all the little details of every car on the lot

Reminds me of a time I was looking at an 8. I asked the sales guy "is this true dual exhaust or just two tips?" He told me it was dual all the way back. Needless to say I'm not going back there again.
