Ashtray Door Broke???

I need some other people to check on this for me. I could have sworn that my ashtray door was kinda spring loaded to stay open when opened, but the other day it was open so I could close my garage door and when I went to accelerate away it slammed shut. Now it feels like the spring tension on it is gone. Could some other people check theirs for me and let me know if it has some spring tension on it so I can get mine fixed if it is broken.

Mine broke too, the right arm of it broke off the hinge. My Mazda service guy said they would replace it under warranty.

TSB on that, Maz. will prolly backorder the part.

Mine's broken too, but it was my fault. I was trying to remove the door to fit my XM Roady in there, and I broke the plastic hinge in the process. I just left it off, maybe I'll look into a replacement eventually.

I dont see a TSB pertaining to this on the finishlineperformance website. The plastic on the hinge did not break, but I think spring broke on it. The door is still very securly in place it just has no tension holding it open.

the prob is not the plastic hinge, but the little steel pin that holds the lid in place. i couldn't find a TSB either. the Maz tech told me about it.

Reviving this thread, can I fix this myself? I have the same problem (spring fell off) and don't want to spend a day at the service department on it.

Mine "lost its tension" a couple months ago, and I had the dealer replace it under warranty while in for an oil change. They will have to order a part.

Don't recommend you try to fix it yourself - use that Mazda warranty!

Cool. Maybe I'll just wait until I need something else done.
