Anyone Running This??

1 Attachment(s)
I'm about to do my first oil change on the 8 and came across this thread while researching info on oil/filters. Thought it may be of interest to some here.

Anyone running Motul here? Kento has some interesting points.

swoope, I take it you like RP...any comments about it?

Xantium 07-30-2006 11:24 PM

So what you're saying is...

"street-legal" oils are starting to contain dangerously low (especially for rotaries) ammounts of anti-wear additives becuase those additives shorten the life of cats. So its important for us to use expensive oils that are made for racecars becuase those dont fall under government control (who love cats) becuase they still contain the ammount of anti-wear additives that we need.

It said something about wear realated cam failure has been seen more in the past 3 years than the past 30!!!??? Did i read that right? Are these new off the shelf oils really that bad?

I guess I need to find some motul 300v before my engine blows up... :cwm27:

my comments..

oil is good... change at the right time... i use rp.... and it works for me...

i think if you change dino and synt at the right time you will not have any issuses.

the dino vs syn debate, my comment is i have a lot less smoot on my exhaust since i changed to rp...

do i think rp is better than redline or mobile 1 or what you posted....

no i dont... but i do think that there is a difference between dino and synt...

just my opoinion, i could be wrong..

beers

I think you gave a good summary. Personally, I've never heard this particular argument before and I've always stuck to Dino oil in my FD.
Maybe I'm giving too much credibility to Mazda's engineers but if they are recommending Dino over Synth I tend to want to stay with Dino.

As for your engine blowing...not likely either way... ;)

I did notice a difference in performance in my other non-rotary car when I switched to Mobile 1. Just haven't had the guts to run it in my 7 or 8 until now...but reconsidering.

if you are saying you are finding a difference in prefomance in an rx8 motor between syn and dino. i think you are on crack...

you might be smart like tuna...

Well, I managed to dislocate the middle joint of my pinky doing my physical therapy exercises. It took me several hours to work up the courage to snap it back in place. It didn't feel very good. Of course, I didn't manage to get it back in place entirely and the therapist ended up putting it the rest of the way back in a couple days later. So far therapy seems to be making my arm worse, but I still have two more weeks of therapy before anybody is going to make any decisions on what to do with me. At this point they are still thinking I will probably need some kind of surgery. I'm hoping to be able to put that off until after I get back from my vacation which is coming up on August 25.

They started me on a course of prednisone again which I don't want to do. Every time I take a five-day course of prednisone I puff up like a balloon and none of my clothes fit. I usually end up gaining between 5-8 pounds from fluid retention. Then I get REALLY hungry and eat far too much! Today I ate a whole bag of potato chips as well as six chicken legs and then realized I had eaten nearly everything and was still hungry. Generally I will get the eight pieces of fried chicken from the grocery store on Sunday, eat two pieces for a meal and take the rest home so whoever can eat it. If I keep this up I'll have to go to work naked.

My mom was going to physical therapy for her knee and it was just aggravating it worse. She is now having surgery Tuesday for a minor tear of her medial meniscus, so I get to skip work Tuesday to take her to and from the hospital, which also means I have several hours to do whatever I want (after Bella gets her oil changed). I also have torn meniscus in my knee but I did that back in 8th grade so I couldn't have it fixed without damaging my joint because my growth plates were still open. She should be fine in a couple days.

I'm going to be staying at the Wynn Las Vegas, the one with the big golf course, not that I golf, though. :)

I had therapy again today and they gave me one of these things.

http://www.empi.com/products/ionto.cfm#Action-Patch

Now I am getting a direct steroid infusion into my arm. It appears that my therapist doesn't want me to finish out my course of therapy because I am getting worse so I am supposed to be referred back to my doctor to most likely see a neurologist and hand surgeon about my problem.

And, on subject, I don't do synthetic in mine because my dealer gives me free oil changes for life and they use regular oil. :)
