Anyone have a Miata too, looking for one

To keep the miles off my new R3, I'm thinking of getting around a 2000-2001 as a daily work car, since I drive a 100 miles a day the R3, @17mpg is not very practical anyway. The R3 will be the weekend toy... Just wondering if anyone has and good/bad stories about the miata's. I'm guessing on the hwy they should get around 30mpg?

Thanks

www.miata.net FTW. Awesome Miata site.

I've owned a 1999, 2006 and 2008 Miata. Loved them all but kids and the impracticality of having 3 cars prevented me from keeping the last one. Highway mileage was low to mid 30's; city mileage was mid 20's.

I've owned three – and would happily own another. If you do a "Miata" search here, you'll find a number of good threads.

I actually just bought an RX-8 and am planning on selling my miata ('01 SE). I'll miss it as I've had it for 7 years now. Great car. Tons of fun but I really needed back seats.

they will get 30mpg on the hwy?

I have a supercharged 92 that I autoX. They're great fun to drive. Even stock they're a lot of fun. Something about driving with the top down that just makes one smile. One day I know I'll need to replace it and I'll probably look to autoX an NC (latest gen) Miata. Otherwise I'll just keep driving it for as long as I can.

Sucks that the car with the best mileage is the one we compete with.

I love my 17-year-old Miata and commuted in it daily for many years, but my 'mountain' commute is ideal for a Miata. I wouldn't really recommend an older Miata for a lot of Interstate driving, which is what your commute sounds like. Kind of noisy and not terribly comfortable. But the mileage is good. In my lightly modded Miata with about 100 lbs of weight reduction (eg, 6.5-lb wheels), I've actually gotten 40 mpg a couple of times.

I've got a 95 with 126k on it, been driving it for 5 years. Excellent car and outside of standard maintenance I've replaced the slave cylinder twice and I recently found a rear bushing to be a bit worn.... pretty much the extent of what's gone wrong haha. Mileage has always been good, never less than 25(lots of high revs and fun curves) and I've even hit around 35 mpg on occasion. Average mpg with city / highway is around 28 for me.

It's not quiet, even with a hardtop. The engine noise on the highway is loud, but if you've got top-down weather or a decent stereo, who cares? : ) Haven't been in the newer ones, but I've been told they're a bit more refined.

Cheap to buy, insure, fill up the tank and still fun. People complain about the lack of power, but it's well balanced and the car is a blast to drive... better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow : )

I've got a 92 that I picked up last summer for 2 grand. It had 195K on it, and I've put about 3K on it since. No problems at all, gets 26 mpg around town, and a blast to drive.
