Anyone have the 7-year 100k-mile warranty?
 

I'm on a roll.

Anyway, I've been looking at a '04 Certified RX8 with 30k miles. It's got the touring sport package and has a moon roof and pwr locks, and seats. Doesn't have leather (which I like). Dealer is asking for 20k. Still debating.

But, its Certified, so its got a 7-year 100k warranty on the drivetrain. To me that just sounds awesome.

My questions is is whether all new 8's have the same warranty, and if this warranty is really as good as it sounds.

actually, i have an 04 gt with leather, which i bought used with 7k on the car. according to the documentation i have, i have the balance of the original 4 year, 48 k warranty, plus 1 year/12 k warranty, plus an additional 3 year/38 k warranty on the power train. that means my warranty (on the motor and trans at least) doesnt expire until 100k or sept of 2012. for a total of 8 years.

First of all, that is not the factory warranty. Ask for the actual insurance policy documentation. A lot of third part insurance is very specific about what it will pay for and they itemize the components - all of which are part of a piston engine and none of which apply to a rotary.

Second, it is going to be up to 7 years and 100k total, no from the time you purchase it.

I went with the same. I bought my car brand new a month ago, and opted to go with the 7yr/100K mile warranty for a hefty amount.

First off, you need to look CLOSELY at the extended warranty policy. There are MANY different ways to pull the warranty together. For instance, mine is an full coverage extended warranty, BUT i opted to go with the $100 deductible extended warranty, which kept the cost significantly lower.

My 7yr/100k covers everything, interior, exterior, powertrain and driveline. It's all in yur policy. I'd never knock the warranty, even if it is third party...cause its still there when ALL repairs would normally be on yur shoulders!

If its not extended warranty direct from Mazda, you all got big time screwed.

How many times that those media said do NOT get any "extended warranty" ?

My Uncle got into that crap, at first they said they will "cover powertain" but later when my Uncle's Sienna's having over heat problems, over and over, they said they dont cover that part blah blah blah and point it to some Tiny Little words in the contract that that problem will not be covered. My uncle was pissed and he trade the car the next week.

Well, lets just hope that everything works.

I have that warranty mainly for the fact that it covers the computerized stuff. The modules, if they need to be replaced, cost more than the warranty did.

yeah, most dealers try to pass the "extended warranty" off as some offical thing, but in reality you can buy it direct yourself and cut the dealership out of the loop, saving yourself several hundred dollars.

do some research online about what plans are good, and what to avoid.

Hmm... mine's 10-years/100K. It's the TotalCare plan which, as others have mentioned, covers electrical components. Even flat tires due to glass or metal punctures.

Reading all the small print to a warranty is about equivalent to reading the bible, front to back. I swear that one paragraph could have covered it all...but noooo. :dunno:

I have a 2004 with 7-year 100K. 70% payed off. Looking forward to voiding my warranty with Greddy or SC

If it was bought directly from Mazda, you can sell a pro-rated amount of the extended warranty back!!

Why get an extended warrenty on a new vehicle. Chances are your gonna sell it before you can use it.

Besides we have so many moving parts in a rotary tha tit will make your head spin.

Why don't you just get a piston engine instead of an extened contract?

Man, I really want an 8, but I keep seeing posts like the one above.

i got 7 yr/100k on mine. bumper to bumper + rotor protection.
You never know, tomorrow i could be driving down the street and a housing could decide it didnt want to house anymore.

That won't happen due to the fact that my car is in the shop getting the intake put it, plus the EPP package reapplied and the brakes updated(and only 3280 miles! what the!), but still.

Damn.. I wish I could take mine back... :/

when something drops out on yur 8 down the line (it is still a CAR, 8 or not), you'll look back and laugh about yur second thoughts. Extended warranties are like car insurance...You'll gripe while you pay into it, hoping not to need it, BUT when it's unexpectedly needed, you'll be awefully thankful it's there!

Like a bunch of others said. I think I won't have it until I hit that mark, I'll probably be in a new rotary by then... but how would one go about selling their warranty back? I had no idea you could do that in the first place.

You mean canceling the warranty? You can do that and get the remainder of the value of the warranty returned to you. It's in the contract of the warranty. Or at least the warranty that I have.

Yea, like one of the others mentioned, it can be done, but they usually don't go around promoting the fact that you can get a pro-rated amount of it back in accordance to how far into the warranty you are.

I KNOW that Mazda does the sell-back warrantys, however, if your warranty is a 3rd party-kinda-warranty that others have mentioned, i'm not really sure if they would do the same.

If you have any questions about it, run by a dealership and just ask to talk to the fianance department. Be sure to take all yur papers with you, and they should tell you straight up if yur eligable to sell back...and if so, for how much.

I know a lot of people who sell their cars do this too. They will offer the warranty to be transferred for a certain amount, and if the new buyer doesn't want it (despite popular belief), you don't eat it...you sell it back and benefit from the profits :ylsuper:

i got 7 years bumper to bumper warranty on my 8. i got the warranty to come with the 8 for a great deal..so it pretty much came standard with the car. :)
