Anyone go fishing with the 8 ?

Im going fishing tomorrow with some buddies. I was really hoping my buddy would be able to use his moms car but he cant get it tomorrow so i have to use my 8. 3 dudes and 3 fishing poles in a lowered rx8 30 min drive each way. Lets see how it goes.

I really didnt want to use my car but ughhh i guess im going to have to.

Would all 3 poles even fit in the trunk even if theyre pulled apart ?

words of advice: dont do it. you will regret it more than you know.

Pulled apart should be no problem. If all else fails just remove the plastic piece in the middle of the back seat and have them poking through there. I would be sure to wrap them up in a sheet or blanket so they don't get anything dirty. Also maybe have people bring along an extra pair of shoes so when you are done and the shoes or whatever are dirty/muddy just toss those in a garbage bag so you don't get crap all over your interior. Not much else you can do to avoid dirt or smell other than not doing it.

Well I take myself and 2 friends fishing all the time! I keep 2 9ft fly rods and 1 6ft as well as my jackets a chairs box of coarse fishing gear as well as a 9ft coarse fishing rod in the car going between the drivers and passenger seats. We travel quite fat down bumpy roads and although yours may be lowered, you do not have Fat Gaz in yours :-)

Im fortunate enough to have a very nice life (im far from rich, middle class family but still much better than what many others have to go through). Live in miami, grew up around boats and fishing. Hell, "boat" was my first word.
Between fish, mud, water, equipment, damage risk from all of the above, then having a full car and being lowered, transportation, their stuff, bait, and the additional risk of damage or injury from all that, its far from worth it.

Rotary-RX8 08-28-2012 10:51 PM

^ i cnt bail on them now :( .. were supposed to leave tomorrow morning. I guess ill bring alot of towels and stuff to cover and protect from damage.

Ricky SE3P 08-29-2012 02:34 AM

Yeah....i mean i dont intend to come off as an extreme douchebag...im just being as honest as i can on the reality of it. Hopefully your experience goes well and i hope you take pictures of the entire car inside and out before the trip for personal safety and reassurance JUST in case something happens (knock on wood it doesnt). Id hate to see something happen that couldve been avoided...oh and make sure you and everyone else DO NOT bring or have anything that is or has bananas... Bananas are extreme bad luck for fishermen and boaters alike! Dont risk the superstition coming true! Lol

Can't bail now on friends who are expecting you to use your nice sports car to go fishing?

I think you need new friends:cwm27:

Personally, I would not use my car for transporting people with fishing equipment or anything like that. I have leather seats, and the thought of somebody making a mistake and scratching - or worse tearing off - something in the interior would drive me crazy.

My solution would be to get a car rental for a couple of day, and ask all the 'friends' to cover rental expenses.

Its not so bad...slide the poles in the trunk through the center that folds down. Make your friends take the hooks out of there poles and just tie the line and stuff the rest in the trunk. Its never hurt my leather interior one bit.

just got back.... wasnt bad at all. Wrapped everything in towels and garbage bags and all is good :P

After reading all of these posts I'm surprised that many people said don't use the 8. It's a car and as long as you are careful and act like the anal car guy to your friends they will generally be careful too. (assuming they are actually friends)

I've golfed, fished, camped and snowboarded with my 8 hauling everything/one. It's a very capable car, just take care of it.

dave93 08-31-2012 05:32 AM

I use my 8 all the time for going fishing gear goes in fine and does not effect performance one bit

Vorsanss 08-31-2012 01:29 PM

I go fishing all the time. I just take the center lid out between the rear passenger seats and put the rod through there. The tip ends up near my shift knob. I use a med - light fast action single section rod so i cant pull it apart. I think its 9' or 10' length. Also the little well is very handy because depending on your reels ( I use spinning reels) you can set them in so they are hanging down in that small well instead of laying on their sides. i can upload a picture some time. :)
