Im curious what the AT changes in '06 really did for the car

 

2 more gears and 15 more horsepower. It did more for reliablilty than anything to my understanding.

 

But why?

 

Would think the site has someone that posted a comparison...
don't know myself but could not help but feel having the 6 speed allows one to get up to speed so far as rpm ranges go faster then a 4 speed would allow (at least for each gear)


others will know for sure though since the 4sp is less hp (plus an auto is less power the the stick as is) I would think a 6sp would be the better way to go. Not much power below 3k to me and I have an auto 07 model.

 

The 4spd has a firmer shift which I prefer.

 

More HP and 2 more gears I believe....

P.S. by saying AT bashers disregard you most likely will just attract them...haha

 

^^^ Yes, I admit it, I immediately wanted to post "AUTOS SUCK!!!" but I used self control. It was very tempting to post "AUTOS SUCK!!!", but I didn't and I'm proud. I'm a better person than somebody that would just drop in here out of the blue and post "AUTOS SUCK!!!", so I hope nobody does that. It's not right.

 

but seriously , has no-one driven both a 6sp and 4sp AT?

at least we cleared up it has two more gears

 

Its still slow compared to an MT bc of its inability to launch and to rev out past 7.5k.

I don't think anyone has.. I too would like to know just how much faster if any is a 4AT than the 6AT...

 

about 4 seconds difference 0-60

from what I have seen on the forum and my own AT

my AT did 0-60 in 8 seconds

people on here with 4AT did them in like 11 seconds? or something like that which is sad

2 more gears, massive overdrive on the 6th gear (when you shift to 6th it will go up high for about 2 seconds then drop to overdrive) which actually gives you much better gas milage than my MT

and also they are more reliable because of minor tweaks that mazda did, just like for the MT models

 

I drove a 4spd like 2 years ago before I bought my 6spd auto and im pretty sure there was a noticable difference being the 6 was faster. But I could be completely wrong :/

 

Well, you still have that gawdawful power sapping Torque convertor, but at least you have 2 more gears and 15 hp, I'd imagine it slpits the difference between manual and auto models of 04/05's. Taj's 6/8/11 0-60 comment sounds about right....

 

If your are getting a auto 6sp then consider the 2009 model if you can afford it and would be happy with its looks outside. It offers the ability I believe to down shift one gear (but only one) even in auto mode which is a cool feature I would say (08 and ealier back to 06) does not offer that feature.

Heck, just buy my 07 and be done with it. You needed a vacation to florida anyway right
