A year and a half later :) and still loving my 8.. Just dropping in for a progress report from my first post as an 8 owner..
I went from stock Attachment 196865 To taking 2nd place at the Ocean City East Coast nationals Attachment 196875 Attachment 196869 I wanted to keep it fresh for 2013 so I switched It up again. With the Veliside kit and the Rota Grids Attachment 196872 I wasn't satisfied, so I sold the grids and got a set of battles and had the nose painted. Attachment 196870 Next came the vinyl roof wrap and plum crazy purple paint for the battles. Attachment 196877 And then took 1st this year in Ocean City and Carlisle performance and style. With a few more modifications this year. Attachment 196878 Attachment 196873 It's not over yet I still have more in store! Attachment 196879 |

Just bought 2005 rx8 with 44,000 miles
Hey!
I just bought my 2005 rx8 automatic from the Mazda dealership and they claimed they did their 170 point inspection before selling it. Today marks 2 weeks owning it and I brought it back to the dealership for help and guidance but they said it's fine. I been having a hard time starting it. I know about fully warming up the car before short distance driving and making sure the car is fully warmed up so it the engine won't flood. Yesterday it took 2 attempts to start the car then I warmed it up until it reached the mid-line on temp. gauge then drove it about 7 miles (highway miles) and then parked it for about 20-30 minutes and it took 3-4 attempts to start the car before I was able to go back home. The car also been parked for one full day after being driven 11 miles. All fluids are full (oil, coolant, transmission). I have the extended warranty from the dealership, what should I request for work done under the hood to make sure this won't happen again until it ages... P.S. This is my first RX8 and any helpful information is welcome. Please and thank you! |
The 170 point inspection almost certainly didn't include the most critical piece, an engine compression test.
However, describe the difference between a cold start and a warm start? Are they about the same difficulty? Can you say that one is harder than the other? Offhand, it sounds like a failing starter, but it could be many things, depending on what your answer is. |
The warm start seems to give me problems.

I would recommend taking it back to the dealer and see if you can get a compression test, since that sounds like your engine might be on the edges of failure. I suspect your starter is shot as well, but you may also have ignition failure. None of these things are actually covered by the "170 point inspection".
I normally don't recommend going to a dealer, because they are usually pretty incompetent. But if you have the warranty that would cover this stuff, it's probably the best option. Make sure you insist on the compression test, as it will also give you the health of the starter. You need 6 compression numbers and at least 1 cranking speed. This will also give you the health of the starter. It is the most critical test we tell people to get before buying, and you need to know NOW if your engine is dying. Read the new owner's thread at the top of this subforum (linked in the red announcement and my signature as well), and go back to the dealer armed with information. Don't let the dealer walk over you. If you can post from a smartphone or something don't be afraid to tell us what the dealer is saying so we can refute it or give you the right information to go back at them with. |
Thanks a ton! When the warranty kicks in I'll have all of those checked out. The warranty should kick in this current week...
|
Um, why not immediately on purchase like every other warranty?
|
I've been asking and calling. The dealership kept saying "soon" and "this week."
|
Something REALLY fishy is going on here. "Extended" warranties do just that, they extend coverage. They don't postpone coverage so that there is a gap. I would be very concerned that once you bring it, they will point out that it has crossed a threshhold and are no longer responsible for all or part of the problem. Do you have the full text of the warranty?
