Air conditioner and power

I'm sure this has been talked about but, has anyone else experience alot of power loss with the air conditioner on?

Is it ok to redline with the air on?

I noticed alot of power loss at times with air on and then other times it isn't as noticeable.

Just wondering....

I haven't noticed any loss of power, but I have an MT, do you have an AT?

My opinion is hopefully Mazda engineered everything to withstand high RPMs, but you are correct in assuming those accessories are turning fast. Not sure if this is the same on an 8, but oftentimes the altenator on an engine will turn close to or above 30,000 rpm at high engine rpms.

My understanding of the car is after 4000Rpms the car automatically shuts off the AC to help return power. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Mine cuts off at 4K then returns after I've come back down.

That's definately a good idea. I know a lot of cars used to shut them down at WOT, but a chevette wouldn't make it up a hill with the a/c on!
