Advice for new wheels...

So was thinking about getting the foose speed black for my 8 until i found out that they are 26 lbs each. I've read in another thread the the stock '07 wheels are around 20lbs each. So my question is, how bad will this affect the power? I dont race this car but I definetly dont want to slow it down too much either. Advice is appreciated.

heavier wheels = more rotational mass = slower acceleration, plus longer time on the brakes to slow down

Not to mention those wheels are terrible. Keep looking.

nough said. Thanks guys. I was already kinda shying away from them.

2tone, is that your ride in your pic. If so, what size wheels & tires are those (w/ offset). I like the way those look

2tone 09-10-2010 02:31 PM

yeah, sorry, the pic is super dark, but they are 18x9.5 +30 with 275 tires. fill out nicely, but lowered needs a fender roll, fyi

looks good man.... damn, too many decisions!

answer the following:

Budget:
Purpose: (function or form)
Look: flush, tucked, hella flush
Preference: (ie, name brand vs knock offs)
Design: (Deep Dish, concave, mesh)

btw, i'd be more conscious of the weight of the wheel.

Serious question, does the extra total of about 12-16 pounds that a heavier, cheaper set of wheels give really make that big of a difference? I would assume that we're all into wheels for the looks, but I want to get more of an idea on how significant wheelweight is for our car.

omg omg omg, i'm 4 states away and i can still feel till's blood boiling!!!!!!

...[taking cover]...

read this thread. and yes, you're not talking about 12-16 pounds, as if you got fat one day...we're talking about WHEEL weight, rotational inertia or whatever the physics geeks call it. so yes, it affects acceleration, braking, and turn in response, drastically.

ok guys found some wheels but the guy only has 2 so im lookin for the best place to find one but anyone have any comments on 5zigen proracer GN+ they are 18x8.5 think they are 22.00 pounds anyone had these? they are bronze with a chrome lip

AliceIsHerName 09-10-2010 03:18 PM

gotta make sure i know our cars are 5x114.3 but isnt that also 5x100? these wheels are 5x100 i

The Reverend 09-10-2010 03:20 PM

5x100 is a no go

AliceIsHerName 09-10-2010 03:21 PM

thanks guys

Atilla 09-10-2010 03:22 PM

alice: 5x114.3 = 5x4.5

5x114.3 =/= 5x100

grog: depending on the purpose it may vary. If you're going for strickly form - then buy some big ass baller wheels n' shit on performance. If you're gonna consider autox or track you really should look to minimize weight where ever you can.

and yes...anger is rising
