unfortunately whenever you are backing up, it is NEVER your right of way. You must yield to stupid people who obviously saw you backing out but refuse to be courteous so they keep driving and then you end up hitting them.
Ask me how I know.... :banghead: |
that sucks bro... good luck
|
Yep, when backing up, you never have the right of way, it sucks. Specially in large garages where nobody stops and vision is very limited, especially when everyone drives SUVs and parks em around you -.-
|
Always back in, Always. I'd rather pay a 20 dollar ticket occasionally than to risk getting hit by someone or worse... hitting a child I couldn't see.
P.S. Pull in laws are stupid. |

awwww crap. get the car fixed & move on. the way she's driving, she'll get hers soon enough.
sorry to hear about the damage to your car. |
 yes, that's your fault. however, if you had any witnesses that could testify to her driving recklessly..or in this case reck-fully, you could possibly get it to be 50/50.

I thing I noticed since moving to SoCal is the absolute rudeness of people when it comes to letting people back out of spaces. I can't tell you how often I'd be 1/2 out when some ass with a death wish goes flying behind me in the parking lot and sometimes even honking at me for his/her douchness.
|
it's the same as being on the freeway and trying to switch lanes. they'll swirv around you even when your half way in :icon_no2: it's the land of douche bag drivers
|
I have never heard of a backing into a spot ticket. Where do you live

That's when you click the red button and deploy the trunk missile launchers. :D: |
screw everyone, I always back in and havent had a ticket yet and Ive lived in 4 states in the past 2 years! lol (NJ, IL, IA, CA)
|
Your fault. sorry.
Thats why I almost always back-in whenever possible. too many assholes/morons around. |
Your fault.
Defensive driving says you should never expect people to brake when they have the right of way. |
Correct me if I'm wrong but from my understanding, backing in to park is only illegal when the exhaust is facing a pedestrian walkway, so this regulation probably does not apply to parking lots.

"You should never expect people to brake no matter who has the right of way or what the circumstances are." |

Really? Honestly, it seems that in today's world it's more of:
"You should never expect people to do anything the way they are supposed to." |
Well actually, I think it's better to think of it this way:
"Always expect everyone else to follow the rule 'Me first' when driving" :p: |
expect to be paying man.

I always try to park in a manner where I can either drive straight out of the spots, or don't bother with parking in a place I need to back into. I'll walk a block extra if need be!
|
I have a set of portable severe tire damage strips I lay out across the parking lot before I pull out. Once I've backed out of the spot I pick them up, toss them back in my trunk and off I go. Problem solved.
It's rediculous that the person who has greater visibility shouldn't have to yeald right of way. Even when I back into a spot, If theres a GMC yukon to my left, and a hummer to my right, how the heck am I supposed to see oncoming traffic before pulling out? All I see is sheet metal. |

Law should be changed, where people backing out of a spot have the right of way. But not going to happen, and if it does, I doubt anyone would bother and it certainly would never get enforced. |

in german they have a phrase, it translates to:
"here lies mrs mueller, she had the right of way." always assume the other driving is an absolute idiot. |
My husband taught me something he learned in Iraq. Hit your emergency flashers and hit your horn before slowly backing out. Usually if a driver is paying attention the flashers do the trick. I use that whether I'm driving my 8 or his Sahara. I get soem strange looks but it seems to work. I also "battle park" when I can, (pulling through to the other spot so that you can pull directly out of it). I take a walk around the car from rear to front and check for traffic, door dings, and "boogey men" even in broad daylight before I get in my car to leave.
Sorry to hear about the incident. I was in the same situation, but I wasn't moving and had someone back into me. The other driver lied and said I was trying to pass. It ended up being no fault.. |
well i just recently was askin ppl that saw and every single 1 says she was goin hella fast so i guess that can translate to being her fault.. i hope at least
