Acceleration uphill

To the lucky few who already have their RX-8's; how does the RX-8 do going uphill?

I live in Reno, NV and we have lots of hills here. My four-banger mustang just chokes going uphill (can barely get the thing to go more than 50 uphill) and I was wondering how the 8 does.

No worries at all. The car accelerates up hill just fine. There aren't a whole lot of steep hills in San Diego, but I've gone up some inclines that gave my POS Explorer problems and I've had no problems accelerating and passing other cars doing so.

8 does fine uphill, at least in my VERY VERY short experience, if i had one, id test it (giant ass hill on my "block" i mean like, hurts to WALK up the thing, its LONG and STEEP with a little extra slope at the top thats just killer)

It all depends on which gear you're in right? Unless you're talking about an automatic.
This question is a llittle vague.. With a 6spd just downshift.

No problems here, even at comparatively low speeds (for the gear) going up hills. Like 45-50 in 6th gear.

Exactly if it's a 6spd what's the problem? My piece of S**T Tiburon did the Canadian Shield no problem.

Surprising well.

I have some hills on my trek to work that I always had to downshift with my pick-up truck.

In 6th gear the RX-8 went up with no problem & only slight more pedal needed to stay at same speed.

Sorry if the question wasn't clear. I've alway driven automatics and even "downshifting" in those didn't help. I am getting the 6sp though.

I meant going up the incline without having to downshift. If it lags like some cars that NEED to be downshifted to keep up or if a little more gas is all it takes to keep the same speed.

So far, I think it'll be fine for the hills around here from everyone's response. Thanks

It still depends on the incline, speed and which gear you're in. You will have a much harder time to go up a steep hill in 6th gear at 30 mph than in 2nd gear at 45mph.

Yeah, something I want to see with the 8's myself with the rolling hills around here. But sounds ok.

I typically increase my mph-per-gear ranges by 5-10mph when going up hills, force of habit by now, just to make sure to be friendlier on the engine, sometimes at the cost of a downshift.

I went up a semi-steep hill (~25% grade) recently in 4th gear@4000rpm. There was a truck or somethin or other infront of me that I wanted to pass, so I stepped on the gas and started to accel, but slowly. So I downshifted to third and literally zipped by the truck. But if my goal had been to go up the hill at a steady speed I could've stayed in that gear all day.
