About to purhcase 07 rx8
 

I found a 2007 RX-8 GT with 28k miles on it for sale at a local dealership. Right now the end price we're talking is at 17.3k not including taxes, well below what I had hoped to end up paying.

Regardless of that, my real concerns are on the car. I've done a lot of research with you guys about how to properly take care of an rx-8, my friend is big into cars and explained the "little things" that I need to know about it, and I've got enough car experience that small tasks and routine maintenance don't really scare me..

The question I have for all of you is: what big things do I need to look out for with the 2007. I know that with the upgraded computer flash there's a significantly less chance of this car flooding, but how much of a problem is it that I need to focus on it. Are there any problems with this year that I need to be worried about? What about compression, is there still a chance of this having a defective motor or did they fix that in the 06 version.

I've looked online and so far I see nothing but clean, so any info you guys can fill me with would rock.

Either way you will have a 8yr 100k mile warranty from the first owners purchase date from Mazda not from the date when you buy the car.

Yep, which I think is a pretty amazing thing, it's nice to have a good fallback just in case things go wrong. But have there been a lot of reports with the 07 models having problems? It seems like it's more concentrated in the 03-05 bunch

The problems lay more in the 04. With an 07 you should be just fine, the only real big things to worry about is the engine giving. But with the warranty they would just drop a new one in.

The amazing experience you get from driving this car is well worth the risk of breaking (especially in your case because if it breaks its fixed free of charge). I just bought my 05 in january and i absolutly love it! Came with 74k miles and i have it up to 76.6k and im still going strong.

When I got my '07 GT I took it to a Mazda dealer to have it checked out. My understanding is the 04s and 05s are the "problem" years (and I use that term loosely) but I still wanted a Mazda dealer to check the car out. While it was there they did a compression test and performed the flash upgrade. Fortunately the car checked out on all ends and I'm quite happy with it. I've had no problems with it flooding, even on those occasional instances where I would forget to let the car get up to operating temp before shutting it off.

For comparison's sake, my 07 was $14,950 + TTL. It had 29,8xx miles when I got it. It was outside of the 3/36 b2b warranty but obviously still falls under the 8/100 engine warranty.

With the upgraded starter and ECU flashes, I think it is actually really tough to flood these engines. My 07 is still going strong!

I got mine a year ago for 25k with 5k kilometers. But in canada prices are always higher. Also, mine was bought in Oct of 08, so I have tons of warranty left!!

04 and 05's problems were corrected by recalls, tsb reflashes. Later model years should be OK. I have flooded my 04 when the car sat undriven too long and the battery was low. It takes a couple minutes to deflood and start, just need to know the procedure.

have never had a flood here in my '07. have started and shut down after car washes just fine...

its more like a regular car with most of the bugs worked out. the only thing i have had fixed was a cooling fan that gave out during the dead of summer.most likely coolant overflowed and burned out the fan motor... having the racing beat gauges helped me catch something was unhealthy before any oem warning lights did.

you should be just fine. make sure to keep tabs on oil consumption levels though. it doesn't take much, so learn to premix.
