9K Beep?

so basically, my car doesnt beep :(
is there an option to turn the redline beep on/off?
if so how do you do it?

oltmann 07-04-2011 10:39 PM

I think it beeps at 8500, not aware of an option to disable it. There is a piezoelectric buzzer on the back of the instrument cluster. Most likely a previous owner removed it or blocked it off -- they rarely fail.

YaXMaN 07-04-2011 11:09 PM

There are many threads about this... search.

Some folks have figured out how to disable it, but it's kind of a PITA. More likely, you're not hearing it. Do you have an exhaust system?

monchie 07-04-2011 11:23 PM

Are you redlining it to keep the carbon away?

Manic Mechanic 07-05-2011 04:48 AM

On the UK forum it has been mentioned that older (i.e. 2003) models had a very quiet beeper, some of which seem prone to failure.

1.3_LittersOfFurry 07-05-2011 05:47 AM

Does that include USA? I got a 09/03 build date and my beep stopped working a few months ago.

wtf does this question have to do with his?

op mine has gotten harder to hear over the years but mostly because of mods. my intake made it hard to hear, then after my full ap exhaust its almost impossible to hear. every once in a blue moon if my windows are up and radio down i can faintly hear it. i remember reading a thread on this a while ago but dont remember the outcome

FERA 07-05-2011 09:51 AM

Mine doesn't beep at all, I did search I found nothing. So is there a way to enable it? I don't have exhaust, even when my car was stock I couldn"t hear it

Footman 07-05-2011 12:47 PM

There is no soft way to enable it. You'll have to dig through the FSM's on the electrical section and trace the wires back inside the instrument cluster to find voltage.

If you have voltage and no sound, test the buzzer.

If you have no voltage, and the buzzer tests okay with an external voltage applied, then you have an issue with the signal wires going to the buzzer.

Do you get the warning tone when you turn off the key with the headlights on?

FERA 07-05-2011 05:45 PM

as in what warning tone, the beep when i open my door? yes

Your not the op, so shut up! This is intended for the op to answer, not you moron.

Manic Mechanic 07-06-2011 03:30 AM

Monchie, I haven't been on this forum long, but it's long enough to figure out you're 'Special'.

The beeper for max revs is mounted on the back of the instrument pack itself and is a complete bugger of a job to remove. It's actually soldered in directly behind the LCD speedo unit, which is itself soldered onto the main board.

lol this. Why does it matter why hes redlining? Also is the beep really needed? I thought most people hated this

Lmao/

back on topic... is there anyway to make the beep louder? for those of us who like hearing it but have a loud exhaust system

1.3_LittersOfFurry 07-06-2011 09:50 PM

^ I'll probably fool around with it once some cooler months come by, since no one has an easy fix. I would really like to add some sort of light to it as well.

Didi you ever get around to tinkering with adding a shift light? I would like someone to corroborate with about putting one in my car.

Razz1 05-29-2012 09:37 PM

My experience is that it doesn't trigger all the time if you just go up to redline.

You have to be accellerating at max and shifting fro the previous redline. Then it works all the time for me.

fyrious<> 05-29-2012 10:09 PM

if you WANT a beep or buzz or light, something to indicate when to shift, you are better of going aftermarket. Otherwise you'll be hunting through a mess of electrical stuff and testing connections to see if something failed or blew.
