oltmann 04-27-2011 09:02 PM

What model do you have? I imagine the magazine tests were done on a GT. The base is 160lbs lighter. I'm not that knowledgable about drag race math, but maybe that gives a teenth or two?

Roidz 04-27-2011 11:15 PM

I think 'fast' is all relative. After driving my truck for the winter the 8 feels fast, but then when I drive my Cts-V it's slow. But the 8 can feel fast depending on how/where it's driven.

Larissa8 04-28-2011 12:17 AM

@Terch - drag was done at Englishtown, Raceway?

I got my rx8 for the handling not stright line speed!( and now going through tunnels ) and because it looks stunning.
If wanted a straight line car I would buy a mustang for the noise and the straight line power. But the again if I was to buy a mustang it would be a 1967 Fastback which I would never take to the drag strip!

Beefy98 04-28-2011 05:30 PM

wait tell me exactly what i have to buy to run a 13.7 in my 8. Without destroying my clutch/tranny. And I'm sure this drops the mileage from horrible to don't ask.

Fuck it, I'm sure I'm already running a 13.7 in zero degree air..

Since you're one of the few NJ people i know of on the forums, we should run our 8s for sh*t and giggles. I have yet to get into autocross but will definitely start soon

tcole6 04-29-2011 07:06 AM

I'm in mount royal. Don't see too many 8s round here, but I did see two this week and got snubbed by both of them. Nice.

You can see my full list of mods in my vBGarage. I would not recommend this setup for a daily driver. I get under 200 miles to a full tank of gas. I drove from my house to Wilmington DE a couple days ago. (96 miles) and burnt a half tank of gas on what was for the most part highway travel.

SleepeR1st 04-29-2011 07:28 AM

terch1, is your track at sea level? That is a damn good time for the little modifications you have done. You should be proud of yourself.

Over here in New Hampshire we have the Epping Speedway, which i am pretty sure is below sea level.

Lots of stock production car times have been bested here, and modified records have been made here.

Never been to a dragstrip but I've been contemplating going. I really want to shut my friends stock MS6 down, and my buddies boosted miata. I've pulled on the MS6 on a high speed "track" run and the miata pulled on the MS6 slightly.

Now i just need the guts to go embarass myself on a couple runs before i feel that stock time or better pulling in.
Eventually when an AP and MM tune comes along my path i will be aiming for records.

From your Vbgarage:
Custom K&N Typhoon intake
GReddy SE Exhaust
RX7store High-flow cat
Sohn omp adapter
Agency Power Underdriven Crank Pulley

Not sure why that would give you such poor fuel economy. I've got an intake, mazdaspeed exhaust, catless, sohn and the AP pulley as well. MM tune as well and can regularly see 20 mpg from highway driving. Seldom does it drop lower than 17 and that's with me really thrashing it.

What are the odds of having a rx-8 and a 87 turbo2 doing the exact same figures in every section of the drag slip?

ya i clicked the link, but i was still lost. until that pic you posted. thats clears things up !

YaXMaNGTO 04-30-2011 12:52 AM

What's a stock RX8 trap, Brettus? About 95-96 mph?

terch doesn't have the slightest clue how much power it takes to pick up almost 10 mph of trapspeed.

I don't what's worse... terch1's lies, or that it took 3 pages to call him out.

13.7 for a bolt-on RX8.... LMMFAO terch. I admire the the "go big or go home" confidence to even make a claim like that, but you have to realize that when you post something that ridiculous, you better count on somebody like me trying to find that slip. You're not the first person to steal a slip, so don't feel too bad, but, wow, that's a rookie mistake copying it verbatim. Ouch.

Rx8vsMalibu 04-30-2011 01:58 AM

I am hoping for a HUGE coincidence here.

8 Maniac 04-30-2011 03:51 AM

Well this thread just got interesting... definitely want to see where this goes from here!

Think this calls for a pic/scan of said slip as proof. Preferably with a piece of paper that has rx8club on it and the date...

supergoat 04-30-2011 07:00 AM

Ok, this thread just got better.

mushkid 04-30-2011 08:30 AM

wow 13.9 with just an accessport tune

thats amazing

well it could be "luck" (?) that they have the same time

if he can post his slip it will clear things up. but if not ...

Man........ I like you Terch. Clear this up.

I highly doubted but then you posted the results so quick........ Honestly the only reason I didn't call BS was because I have seen some weird times at the strip over the years and usually they just chalk it up to a glitch or an unexplained anomaly.

I actually googled the numbers as well as the trap speed seemed really high but nothing came up. I didn't wanna call BS because he says he has a timeslip. But the odds that those numbers are exact are very rare.

Terch, get that bad boy scanned in and posted up.

SleepeR1st 04-30-2011 08:45 AM

I highly doubt we will be hearing from terch anytime soon. How can the numbers add up? A T2 has different gearing, a 4.10 FD, RX8 has a 4.44, different rev limits, 200-300lbs between the two. Power levels might be close, but a 200whp T2 is going to have much more torque than the rx8.

I'm going to say it is impossible for every number in the timeslip to add up.

Yeah. The trap speed (and the E/T ) threw me off but I used to drag race weekly for 10 years and I have seen some weird runs and some weird slips. However, none of my slips ever matched perfectly.

YaXMaNGTO 04-30-2011 01:44 PM

What a nice forum. On any other forum, terch would have been crushed under a deluge of sarcastic ridicule, and there's still folks giving him a chance.

If the nice folks here are just trying to get terch1 to post, that's fine, but he has nothing to stand on. Zero.

The first problem is he says it was the first time he ever went to drag strip, and he's able to set a WORLD RECORD time for an NA RX8. I just love this quote:

I'll spell it out, just for future reference, people. Don't be so easily persuaded as to believe for one second that someone who has never raced at a drag strip can do something like that. It's utter and complete bullshit.

Has anybody ever seen a time slip from atco? They don't even measure the 594 ft time. How epically stupid can you be to post that?

Here's a slip from atco... see? No 594 ft time.
https://lh3.ggpht.com/_lJimlw_Qffw/T...g/petroc63.jpg

It doesn't matter if there's the stratospherically impossible, unimaginably statistically small chance he has the same times as a slip from 2003. A bolt-on RX8 with a first time driver did not, will not, and can not get a 13.7 in the quarter mile on any sanctioned drag racing track in the United States. It's NOT going to happen.

If terch1 wants to redeem himself by actually backing up what he says he did, I'd like to see it. Let me give him an idea of what it will take to see a 13.7 with bolt-on RX8

Practice at the track
Weight reduction
More practice at the track
Addtional tuning and mods
More practice at the track
Drag radials or slicks
More practice at the track
Refining the setup
More practice at the track

Time, money, working on the car's setup, swapping out parts, and practice. That's all it would take. He would have the opportunity to post a shitload of slips from failed attempts to give you an idea of how difficult it would be.

terch1, don't even THINK about posting some other atco slip with a 13.7 on it. I've studied as many of the slips as I can find on the RX8, and I'll know if it's an RX8 that did it. Trust me. If you post anything at all in the future, you better have video to back it up... plain and simple. You can't prove anything you've claimed.

9krpmrx8 04-30-2011 04:23 PM

Ouch............. Sorry terch, you got busted bro.

shawns 04-30-2011 04:43 PM

RX-8 Isn't meant for drag racing its built for cornering , it has the perfect weight distribution

350z will beat it in a straight line but not on a race track.

not all tracks, yes the rx8 handles better than a 350z, but gets killed when not turning.
this is a r3 vs 350z.

I dont know why people always compare rx8 with 350z

Well obviously its going to be faster , it costs more , has more power .

Why dont we compare it to celica , mr2 etc?

And the 350z looks absolutely hideous without a bodykit

but people are saying the rx8 is faster around a track than a 350z. just because the rx8 handles better, doesn't mean its faster around a track. you need a mix of power and handling to get a fast rack time. not just handling.

Depends on the driver almost 70% , what if the arse in the video got a boner while driving the 8 because of the immaculate handling;) probably lost his confidence:yelrotflm
