!6 inches mag on a Rx-8 for winter
Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum. I just bought a Rx-8 2004 GS 6 speed. I have currently 225/45/R18 tire on it for summer and want to know if I can put 16 inches mag for winter. The dealer said me that I can put 17 inches mag for sure on it, but I don't know if 16 inches will fit or not. Anyone try it? By the way, it will be mazda 3 or mazda protege mags. Same bolt patern (5 holes, 114.3 mm). thanks |
Yeah, it'll work. It'll probably look pretty stupid, though. And your speedo will be way messed up.

You should try one on. I'm pretty sure the "sport" brake rotor won't fit in a 16, I use cheap 17's

I think I read on here somewhere that the larger front rotors on the Sport model and up won't fit a 16" wheel. Check the For Sale section...seems like there's always a selection of 17s with winter tires mounted for about $600-1000 up there.

16" wheels won't fit on a sport model with the big brakes.
Jasmin - you'd be better off posting in the "Wheels, tires,..." forum. Or search/browse there. There are usually threads on this very topic. Also, visit tirerack.com. They have a very nice system for finding tires and wheels that fit. A few minutes with that and you'll be able to figure out what size tires on 17" wheels will work and will have the same rolling radius as your summer tires/wheels. The tire/wheel selector (and price calculator) works even if you don't buy from them. You can get new 17" winter tire and wheel combinations for not much more than $1000. Check that out. Also do as Groundrush suggests and check the "For sale" forum here. Also visit the "Show and shine" forum so you can learn how to clean your 8 after you drive it through the slush. :) Ken |

Ok thanks guys. I decide anyway to buy 17 inches for winter instead of 16. It will keep a better look.

Where did you buy?? Tire Rack?

I tried to fit 16's and they won't fit. You will need to get 17's no matter what due to the brake caliper size. For tires I highly recommend the Dunlop M3 sports. I've been using them for 2 years now and they're great! Nice and "V" rated as well. Good snow and ice control and with the 17's your wheels will be lighter too so you'll feel a new sense of vigor.
