3rd gen RX-7 spare tire as a spare tire?

Hi Guys,

I didn't find this info in a search or FAQ, so I apologize if it has been posted already.

I'm a 3rd gen RX-7 guy. My dad has an '04 RX-8 and is interested in getting a spare tire for it. Before he shells out the money, I was curious about whether anyone has tried using the 3rd gen RX-7 spare instead? Even the 2nd gen (FC) tire looks like it might work:

It's not as small as the factory RX-8 spare, but I think it will work. I base this on the fact that I've seen a couple of 3rd gen RX-7 (FD) cars with RX-8 wheels.

It would be a much cheaper option for someone looking to occasionally carry a spare tire.

Thanks,
Sonny

$250 on ebay. That is where I got mine.

a rotary family! Awesome. My dad used to own an RX-7, and I thought it was awesome which is why I got my RX-8.

I'm almost positive it's the same offset. There are some members on rx7club.com who are sporting 18" RX-8 rims on their cars.

It won't work. We tried it already. The problem is with the brake clearance in the front.

Paul.

Argh. I figured it wouldn't be that easy. Thank you so much for the info.

Cheers,
