350Z, RX-8, now what?
it's a great time to be an import car enthusiast now that the Japanese Supercars are coming back...minus the Acura NSX, they all went extinct in the 90's...the Mazda RX-7, Toyota Supra, Nissan 300ZX, and Mitsubishi 3000GT all gave way to Compact Sports cars like the Acura Integra and Toyota Celica...
have any of you heard anything from Toyota or Mitsubishi on rereleasing the Supra or 3000GT? what cars would you like brought overseas, ahem, Nissan Skyline...do you prefer the compact cars like the Subaru WRX or Lancer Evo VII? |
this is going to become a beautiful thread, if i knew anything about cars and such, id probably make a comment of a nature other than this one.

Definitely the GTR from Nissan.
Also, I really wanted to see another MR2 SW20 type of car back over here. Pure Sport, Turbo Powered, RWD, great handling car with relatively low price tag. |
well, to answer my own question, i'd love to see an American Skyline roam the streets...the Toyota Supra was my dream car before and i'd love to see what Toyota can think of next as a successor...as for looks, i think the 3000GT was the most beautiful Supercar of the pack, although it never caught on...i really wish Acura would remodel the NSX, the body is gourgeous, but it's aged...i personally can't wait for the new RX-7 successor...i think the 350Z is a great car, looks of a Porsche with similar performace, but i just really need the backseats...

I've read of two exciting rumors:
1. Honda will update the NSX. Two possible drivetrains: a. i-VTEC V-8 b. Gas-electric hybrid that combines an updated 3.0L V-6 driving the rear wheels through a 6-speed transmission and electric motors directly powering the front wheels. The electric motors would be fed by capacitors instead of batteries. The motors would only kick in when a burst of acceleration is needed, when drag racing or powering out of a tight corner, for example. The drive train would generate a total of 400hp for short bursts of acceleration. 2. Toyota will build a car to contend with the NSX. It would be powered by a version of the Lexus V-8 with variable valve timing. Cars I'd LIKE to see the return of the Toyota Supra and RX-7, both to compete with the 350Z. I'd also like to see a new Miata with the 210hp version of the Renesis and a 6-speed. A new MR-2 with a 2.0L 4 making at least 200hp. I'd also like it to be a little bigger, with more cargo room. |
There's also the S2200 from Honda. Basically a bored out S2000 coupe (fixed roof). Mug shots make it look a bit like a 911.

Mazda Cosmos and the Toyota 2.5 Soarer I know the Lexus SC's was close but they didn't have the TT 2.5 engine

The Toyota SUPRA IS coming back in 2004 for the US...... It will have a redesigned fron end..... :)

Any details on the new Supra yet? If it's a 2004 model certainly it's a completed design by now.
btw. nice Supra :D RotaryStalker |
I know a friend who is a designer for toyota and is currently completing a concept for the new supra. I have seen the blueprints, you will be amazed. I can't give too much info because my friend would be in deep shit if I said too much, but I can tell you that it will have 3.0 and 3.5 liter V-6's. Here's a sketch which is very close to what the supra will look like.

After searching on Google for the 2004 Toyota Supra, I came up with a few pics (obviously prototypes):
http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/ce...ews/5000GT.jpg http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/ce...news/supra.jpg http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/ce...ews/supra1.jpg From http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/rumors.htm Rumors are now begining to swirl madly about a 2004 (actual late-2003 release) model year Supra. Preliminary specs include either a 3.5L V-6 with 325HP in the high trim, and a 2.5 L V-6 in the lower trim. This is well overdue as the Supra is no longer for sale in Japan, and an large number of competitors have popped up in the last few years (350Z, redesigned Skyline, Facelifted NSX, etc.) News of a 2004MY Supra release also "suspiciously" appeared in both "Automobile" magazine and "Road and Track" July/August '02 issues. All sources seem to show the 2004 Supra coming with a 4.5L V-8 in the upper trim and the 3.5L V-6 in the base trim, though a V10 is also rumored. Expect the Supra to arrive as a direct competitor to the 350Z. If It ever makes it to production it will likely be based on the Altezza/IS300 platform. Pricing and power should be very similar so it should hopefully be a little more affordable than the past Supra. |
Just so you all know, the MKV Supra isn't debuting as a 2004 model, it is a 2005 or 2006 model. I have spoken to a Toyota Representative about it.
I can import a skyline for anyone who wants one. MotoRex is a bunch of money-stealing morons who charge $90k for an R34. If you are interested in pricing, please Email me @ (Andrewfrom1985@yahoo.com). You will be amazed at what I can import these things for. Andrew Edited for rule-breaking. |
