2012 rx-8

Hi Guys

I'm thinking to buy rx8 but I'm confused.
In 2012 rx-8 still continues to produce or not?

paimon.soror 07-21-2011 10:25 AM

negative

RotaryP7 07-21-2011 12:02 PM

Yea, 2011 model is the last I believe..

Locathus 07-21-2011 05:11 PM

FWIW, I have seen dozens of posts on here saying no 2012 RX-8, yet nobody seems to have a source when I have asked (in several different threads). I suggest you take any comments along these lines with a whole shaker of salt unless someone can provide any sources.

For reference, I have e-mail Mazda directly and they have not released any official statement on the 2012 RX-8.

There are several sources on this website about this story. You will have to search it and i believe, this is the last year that Mazda will sell the rx8. So sad, but true.

Locathus 07-23-2011 06:31 AM

Well, I've searched several times myself, mostly because I really want to buy a new RX-8 and I really would like to wait until next spring due to finances and the fact that my current car really isn't in bad shape.

However, every time I find any reference to the 2012 RX-8 it is similar to the posts above. "Yup, last year for the RX-8" - no references, no sources. As far as I can tell it is something a lot of people on here have accepted, but nobody seems to know where the information originated.

I have also searched all over the web - repeatedly - and found no credible source willing to say this. Mazda themselves say that there has been no official statement (I e-mailed their NA press officer). And I've searched the major auto outlets - Road & Track, Car & Driver, Winding Road, etc. - and nobody seems to have the story. I even e-mailed the editors of several of the sites but got no responses.

So, bottom line for me is that I'm treating the demise of the RX-8 as a rumor until I can find some sort of corroborating evidence. I'm not looking necessarily for something official, but something from a reliable source would be nice.

That said, if you or anyone else could find the forum post that I'm missing, or an external link to something more substantial, I'd very much appreciate it. If this really is the last year of the RX-8 I need to adjust my plans appropriately and get out to my dealer.

I believe it all started with this Motor Trend article: http://wot.motortrend.com/writing-on...n-us-7572.html

8 years to late to the game, dude.

roonsrx 07-23-2011 09:40 PM

Well the Rx-7 wan't sold in the US up unto 2002? Anyway, with such low sales numbers, it would make sense. That would suck.

What? Last year for the RX-7 to be imported to the US was a 1995 model.

Supernaut6 07-23-2011 11:17 PM

I have a 2002!!! KINDAAA.

The Rx8 isn't going to be sold in the US anymore. It's not a rumor and it's everywhere on the web. It actually makes alot of sense due to emissions restrictions everywhere in the world being stricter. It's a shame since the s2 motors seem so great but what are you gonna do. The 8 has had an amazing run.

FWIW: Montgomery Mazda in Charlotte, NC has(had maybe) a 2011(new) Velocity Red on lot for like 5-6 months now. You can still buy a "new" RX-8 at some dealerships. Not 2012, but not used either.

There's no rush to get to a dealer right now. Even if 2011 is the last year, there will be plenty of leftovers sitting around forever. Hell, there are still tons of brand new '10s sitting on dealer lots, so if you're afraid of not getting one, don't worry.

Roaddemon 07-24-2011 10:06 AM

This is the rumored replacement for 2012. I doubt it will come that soon.

Thanks to someone for finally posting a reference. I hope that's not the only evidence that people are basing their opinion on, since it certainly isn't definitive, but at least it is a reliable source.

Very true. I just don't want to get stuck settling for something that isn't exactly what I want. Actually, even if they make a 2012 I'm probably going to buy a 2011 next spring since I assume there will be some still on lots. The benefit of course would be that the dealer would have some incentives to make me a good deal, plus I'd have the 2012's as a backup just in case.

Umm...the fact that it is "everywhere on the web" doesn't make it a fact. If I believed everything I saw on forums I'd be in my basement wrapping myself in tinfoil so the U.N. and alien invaders couldn't scan my brain waves.

Now, if you can find something on the web that actually has some credibility (other than the one article already posted in this thread) I'd be interested in seeing a link.

Even if every mention links back to that authoritative Motor Trend article? :)

I've seen that and others that probably were based on that. There are also some reports, cited in the media forum here, about the RX-8 being discontinued in Europe because of emission requirements.

This set me to wondering. How many manufacturers announce beforehand when they'll discontinue a particular model? GM pre-announced when Oldsmobile and Pontiac were going away, but not necessarily by a whole lot. They announced Olds would be gone only four or five months before the last was produced, and two days after they unveiled a new model.

Anyone remember how much lead time was there for DeSoto? Studebaker? Nash? Pontiac Fiero?

Anyway, we'll find out for sure in September, when new car announcements are made.

Ken

That looks nice. I can't wait for the release...if there's gonna be a release.

Umm use google. There are results not pointing to motortrend and announcements about Europe. Make the judgement yourself. I'm not going to spoon feed you links.

couper 07-26-2011 05:43 AM

I'm from Turkey. We don't have emission problem now. But in 3 years we have too.
And in Turkey there is only 5 cars left in dealers.
I don't know what to do...

bse50 07-26-2011 06:07 AM

Send Thunderberk a pm, he is from turkey too and he may be able to help you.

The thing is... You aren't going to find an official announcement yet. It just isn't in Mazda's best interest to announce the end of a production run, as it will accomplish nothing but hurt their current sales.

But if you look at all the signs (the articles, dismal sales, increasing CAFE standards, etc.), they all point to the end of the line for this RX.

Sure thing, which is why I've been following the news closely. If it didn't make any sense for them to discontinue the 8 I'd just ignore the rumors and move on. And I don't expect Mazda to officially say anything soon (although I can always hope) - I'd just like to see something more from the places that are a little more "plugged in". Car and Driver, Motor Trend, etc. all have to have some folks inside the companies providing them info, and you would think the assembly lines shutting down or being reconfigured would be hard to hide, which is why I'm wondering if the rumors really have merit.

Wingznut 07-27-2011 02:51 AM

Another sign is the fact that Mazda isn't denying the stories. If they had every intention on continuing the RX-8, they'd be very quick to officially squash the rumors.
