2006 model keyless entry - autolock feature

Looking through the owners' manual I noticed that the autolock feature can only be activated by the stealership. I have my car in there now to get this done and they're telling me it will be a $50 charge (1/2 hr shop rate) and the method is by plugging in with a laptop. Can anyone confirm that it has to be be activated by a computer and not something like a button pressing sequence?

Same question was already asked here,

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/06-gt-key-programming-88008/

Short version: no one knows how to do autolock without going to dealership... yet...

BunnyGirl 04-28-2006 07:34 PM

It needs to be done at the dealership. Which one is charging $50. If you tell me it is Premier I think I'll scream!!! Those are the most crooked nut jobs I have even run across!

I am thinking about having that feature activated when I get my first oil change.

Easy_E1 04-28-2006 08:30 PM

Why is the dealer charging you to activate a feature on your car?
Just sounds WRONG to me.

I agree. That doesn't sound right.

BunnyGirl 04-28-2006 08:37 PM

As far as I knew it was free, just that the dealer needed to do it because of programming the keys. That's like them making me pay to activate the trunk button on my remote control. It doesn't work until it has first been popped by the inside trunk release button. When I was getting my walk through before I drove off with mine he was going to show me how tire mounting and everything and the remote wouldn't open the trunk. He said it looked like they forgot to activate it so they had me push the trunk button and then closed the trunk again. The remote trunk button worked after that.

I just can't imagine them charging for it. It's not like they are adding something extra to your car.

I'll be sure to ask my dealership about it when I'm there.

I'm betting it was Premier Mazda. They are the biggest bunch of morons in there. I think if they had real chimps things would be run much better. They go out of their way to piss you off and screw you over. My mom and stepdad have an "issue" with them that has since caused the State Attorney General office to refer it on to the Department of Justice for criminal charges pending further review.

Don't go to them for anything!!!

voodooray 04-28-2006 09:49 PM

don't buy a lottery ticket this weekend then...it was Herzog :) Half hour labour, they told me it is done by computer. I didn't expect them to charge me for it either but I just wanted my car back, it has to go back again once they've ordered some kind of cowling that surrounds the steering column, rattles like mad at +60mph.

Well aware of the search funtion, used it and couldn't find an answer.....

BunnyGirl 04-28-2006 10:00 PM

I got mine at Ron Tonkin. I'll have to ask them. I don't know how Herzog is for service and stuff. I know they told me that if I wanted it done to bring all my keys in and they would program them for me. Didn't mention it costing money.

Aseras 04-29-2006 02:04 PM

that's BS it should be covered under the 12 month 12,000 mile adjustment period on a new car that covers damn near everything.... call mazda corporate at 1800 222 5500 and start bitching...

Flak 04-29-2006 02:17 PM

I can see it now...

"Only 499.99 to activate the 6-disc CD changer in your car, drive in today!"

Dealers will start selling electronic options by activation and not installation due to the cheap price of pressed circuit boards these days.

BunnyGirl 04-29-2006 02:30 PM

I called Ron Tonkin and it takes 20 mins. and is a $42 fee because they have to do a reprogramming with the keys and I thought he said the car, but not positive on that part. He just said they have to reprogram everything to activate it. :dunno:

I don't think I'll get it done for awhile at that price. I'll wait.

Aseras 04-29-2006 09:17 PM

i've seen it done on the 2006 miata it took me longer to post this that to do it.. it's just a checkbox/toggle on a odb2 scanner...

here's what I suggest, when you get your mazda satisfaction survey.. knock the piss out of it and bitch in every field about it. I'll guarantee they will fix it.

voodooray 04-29-2006 09:32 PM

haha, I just got my satisfaction survey through the post today. I was told by the salesman that his bonus is tied to that survey...maybe I should lean on him a little, at the same time I'd rather not go back to the dealership as I've spent far too much time there and do have to go back again for a replacement part on the steering column due to a rattle.

I think I need to get an odbII scanner, got any suggestions for a decent cheap option?

The autolock has to be programmed by the dealership because it requires MMDS (Mazda Modular Diagnostic System) or WDS (Worldwide Diagnostic System), same thing in different term.

The procedure using MMDS/WDS has been described by Snap-on in Mazda6Tech forum.

I haven't gotten a satisfaction survey yet from Mazda but I got one from the dealership within four days. This is funny because my mom got a call the very next day from Mazda after buying an 06 Tribute about two weeks ago. Of course, the dealership is now under investigation by the Attorney General's office and more likely than not will be having their financial records audited very soon. I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

I got my car a little over a month ago. I would have thought I'd get a survey from Mazda by now. :dunno:

voodooray 04-30-2006 03:10 AM

you should have had it by now, I bought mine a couple of weeks ago...mine is from Mazda North America and specifies the dealership where I bought the car.

Thanks for finding that, after reading all the posts I will be calling my dealer and Mazda corp on Monday to see why I was charged. People on mazdatech are saying that it's a warranty service and shouldn't have an associated charge.

BunnyGirl 04-30-2006 09:51 AM

I emailed Mazda to tell them I never got my survey and that I want one. Apparently, you have to complete a survey to get touch-up paint, which I want.

I will call them on Monday since I may get results faster by actually talking to someone.
