2005 Really weird start...

Alright so I got my 2005 8 back in October of 2014, ever since I've gotten it it's had hot starting problems and I simply just dealt with it. Here recently the battery light came on and so did a flood of problems with it. Long story short 784$ later a new alternator and battery done at a high quality performance shop (This place apparently specializes in everything, they got 2 nice vipers with over 1k HP to the wheels sitting in there. ) My parents wanted to keep my car for the day after it was fixed so I just let them run around with it, make sure everything was good. I come home from work and next thing I know my mom is starting my car up instantly over and over. Okay maybe not INSTANTLY but it's starting within 2 seconds every time whereas it used to crank for upwards of 10 seconds. Basically what she's doing is letting it crank 2-3 times then she lets go of the key, it stops cranking, then very shortly after fires up.

Basically, turning the key and letting go before it actually fires = engine on

I formatted this horribly so I apologize for that but I'm relatively busy today and was just wondering if anyone has experience with this.

Get your fuel pump checked.

Care to elaborate as this rings a bell, this has happened to me twice ever but during my spirited pedal to the floor driving a few times I'd hit red and my engine light would flash, I basically just let off the gas and it would go away after flashing 10 times or so. I always figured it was the pump acting up?

Flashing CEL is always misfires.
You probably need new coils, plugs & wires.
A failing fuel pump may take a few seconds to prime, I imagine if you time the way your mom is doing it, it's close to how long it takes normally.

I believe you just single handedly solved my issues... thank you. I will definitely get an ignition upgrade and get that fuel pump checked. The guys at UAR recommended a decarb and new belts. An oil change is due soon so I'll go ahead and get all this done in one swing and come out shining. Thank you again.

Also, if you have a catalytic converter, misfires can damage your cat and as a result, your engine.
High speed flashing CEL was what my bad cat was doing before I took it off.
Get your codes scanned, if one of them says 'Catalytic converter below threshold', It's probably bad.

Sorry, I missed the "hot" start part of your problem.
That is a classic symptom of bad compression.
You should get a rotary specific compression test before investing more money into parts for an engine that may be bad.

If you have to crank it 2-3 times then it fires its not flooding, crankng it 2-3 with fuel pump fuse on would flood it even more, either your fuel pump is about to die or fuel filter is clogged, or you have really sh**ty coils/spark plugs/wires. Bad catalytic converter usually causes flooding, so unless its really clogged i would check other stuff before, check basic stuff first ''Plugs ''white as hell for too lean,Blacked out for too rich'' it will give you an idea on what to look for /Air filter & air filter box, tubing for debris, try to cycle on/off ignition switch multiple times before cranking it.... come back at me with results i'll try to guide you in the right direction.

BTW: A performance shop that replaces battery & starter at your cost unless they knew for sure it was dead first is not a shop i wouldn't recommend you to go at again, non starting engines diagnostics starts with the basics '' Air/fuel/fire/Compression'' . Might sounds stupid but if you have basic mechanical skills, ask questions on this forum and try some advices, then send it @ a GOOD mechanic, guide him to the right direction with what you tried on it, You'll save tons of money.
