My 05 with 33.8k gets 16.5 MPG in suburban commuting and 20 MPG highway.

Useless without:

what distance are the trips
how many trips in a day, or startup/shutdown cycles
how slow are the trips
how much time the trips take

Looks like you are performing 30 to 50 startup/shutdown cycles per day, with trips as short as 0.3 km but lasting up to 10 minutes.

I drive a total of 20 km per day 10 to work and 10 home and also would an engine misfiring cause this low mpg

10 km isn't very far - the car will be warming up for half the trip. That's not great for mileage. Misfire is probably a big culprit. Every time the plugs don't fire is a time that a fuel/air load is wasted.

Did your mileage suddenly drop? Or did you just buy the car and it's been like this for you from the beginning?

Also, by "to a full tank" what do you consider to be a full tank? To track mileage you really need to keep track of how much gas you put in and how many miles (or km if you're doing kilometerage) you go.

well then you probably shouldnt be giving inaccurate warm up information since you have never left a warm climate :icon_no2:

I bet you have no idea what an RX8 runs like in -20 degree weather.....

ferg 02-06-2009 11:48 AM

lol no, and i dont think i would even be driving a car like this in that weather, 4x4 would be my choice, rx8 summer time, if anything i would just buy a cheap 4x4 for like 1500 bucks just for cold days

CyberPitz 02-06-2009 11:52 AM

When it's been 20 degrees F out, it takes me the entire trip to work to warm up. 2 miles with VERY limited stops *Maybe 2...*

hackdss 02-06-2009 11:53 AM

I get 180 km to a full tank before the yellow light comes on to fill up again. I bought the car like this. How would I go by fixing the engine misfire problem?

Thanks

Renesis07 02-06-2009 11:54 AM

When its that cold, I typically start my car, shower and get ready (10-15 minutes) then start driving. By that time, the guage was typically 1/3 warm. That was inside an attached garage that was 35-40 degrees all winter. If the RX8 sits outside in that cold, it takes longer.

Time for a tune up. Coils, plug, wires.

need to figure out whats causing it.

Coils, plugs, or wires are more than likely the culprit.

Are you experiencing a louder exhaust and power loss, if so it may be your cat coverter.

hackdss 02-06-2009 12:03 PM

Im not experiencing any power loss or louder exhaust. are the coils plugs and wires hard to replace myself.

Thanks let me know

Check the DIY section and see the procedure. If youre uncomfortable, see if any local 8 owners in your area will help you.

I went for 140 mile drive last night in 15 degree weather. The temp gauge never reached 12 o'clock and the oil was still foamy when I checked it afterwards. This was mostly 60-75mph with the cruise control on. I'm thinking the engine never fully warmed up some since the oil was still foamy.

I picked up the car on Monday so when I first checked my oil I of course freaked out, read the posts on here, and than tried to get my engine up to temp to burn off the condenstation.

Razz1 02-06-2009 04:09 PM

Are you keeping it above 5k RPM when drivin in the city?

fish1 02-06-2009 04:27 PM

be sure that the car is up to date on the "tsb's", including the re-flash.
