2004 Rx-8

I have a 04 Velocity Red RX-8 with 27,000 miles to it. Is there anything I can do for my headlights for the fogging? Other than using Meguires Plastix? I heard I can ask Mazda for new headlight covers???

Renesis07 09-15-2008 11:44 AM

They warrantied mine, bumper to bumper baby!!!! (now they fogged up again )

RyanX-8 09-15-2008 01:24 PM

Mine are fogged up or something... Anyways I stopped at Pep Boys a couple hours ago and they said they would fix them for 100.00 bucks.

lilturbododge 09-15-2008 01:31 PM

is it the moisture valve? I dont know if our headlights have them...

chrism 09-15-2008 03:08 PM

mazda replaced mine 2x under warantee......might wanna try

CTrx8 09-15-2008 03:14 PM

they wanted to charge to replace/repair mine. it's not moisture, it just seems to have a film on the inside.

They actual told me that it was on the outside... seemed like the inside to me.
(Perhaps mine is a different problem)

The associate there told me that basically my plastic headlamps due to being out in the florida sun have faded causing the smoky blurred haze. He said they basically buff the head lamp etc make it shiny and new again. I will stop at a few other places to get more opinions and prices. I know the dealership will tell me to replace them and I am not longer on warranty. Assuming you are not either in an 04 it would cost hell of a lot to buy new headlamps.

CTrx8 09-15-2008 08:05 PM

if i were showing my car it would be one thing but it's just my DD so i can live with the film if the alternative is to drop a few hundred dollars to get rid of it.

dschreiner 09-15-2008 08:33 PM

use toothpaste...rub it on like you would wax and then buff it off. if you have some sort of power tool to buff it off, that makes it really easy. its cheap and works wonders

I know the sand paper is like 1500-2k grit, but there is something about sanding on my car I just dont trust...I guess just keep the area wet and go for it...
