2004 recall?....I have a 2004 and having issues...HELP

How does a recall work?
I have a 2004 and just got it back from the shop and they said there is water in the oil. They said this could cause HUGE damage to my engine and I might need it rebuilt!
I have insurance, but now what do I do? I dont have the money to get my whole engine rebuilt.
HELP

I bought it used, and not from a Mazda dealership. Does that matter?

VS8 12-10-2008 06:58 PM

u go to dealership and they will replace it...unless it is your fault

04RX8man 12-10-2008 07:03 PM

yeah^ but explain some more what do you mean you have water in the oil? is it water or coolant? is it just the foamy dipstick that you get when checking the oil when the weather is cold...How many miles? Auto? Manual? Any other problems? Any CEL's? come one we need some more info so we can help

Joyfull 12-10-2008 07:06 PM

I can really just get the dealership to take my vehicle and get another one? That would be awsome! I'm moving to Alaska and could use a different vehicle

I haven't had the oil drained yet. It's foamy. They said it could be from a bad seal. The spark plugs were replace last winter because they got "flooded"?
I will get it drained tomorrow to look for collant and water. 6 speed with AEM cold air intake and cat back exhaust (both put on within the last 4 months) 64k miles
My check engine light keeps coming on for "missfire" I brought it in last week for the light and that's what they told me. I took it in again on Monday and they said the same thing.

They won't give you a new car, they will replace the engine if it fails and they don't find evidence of mods/abuse/etc.

Joyfull 12-10-2008 07:25 PM

I can take outmy cold air intake and put the old one in...but what about the exhaust? does that void my warranty?

ILoveFI 12-10-2008 07:25 PM

Misfiring could be due to the ignition coils. But seriously, take your car in and have it checked out. They will not give you a different car btw.

Also, if it is the engine that needs rebuilding and there are no signs of abuse/stuff that would void the warranty they will fix/replace it free of charge, BUT insurance is not for this kind of things, it covers accidents and such but not just wear and tear on a car - that is a warranty.

I could be wrong, but I don't see how they could argue that an aftermarket exhaust killed the engine. They don't just have to find mods, they (theoretically) have to find mods that could/did cause the damage.

I bet its the dipstick

Joyfull 12-10-2008 08:01 PM

Razz1: are you talking just a problem with the dipstick? I don't get it

greg985 12-10-2008 10:08 PM

who told you that you have water in your oil? Or did you just check your dipstick and it was foamy?

05rex8 12-10-2008 10:34 PM

the foamy dipstick is normal.
the misfires means you need new coils.
while your at it, change plugs and wires.
clicky!<--show this to your dealer...seems as if they don't have a clue

I haven't had the oil drained yet. It's foamy.

This is normal when you do a lot of short trips. Search on here for threads on that issue. You are OK. Miss fires would most likely be your coils.

Take care,

Brian

When I took it in for the 2nd time to find out why my check engine light came on they guys that worked on it said the foamy oil was from water

zoom44 12-11-2008 07:04 PM

they are right there is water there- its condensation forming in the dipstick tube. its not a problem BUT there is a solution for it

click the link in post 12 above

huh did i not say the foamy dipstick waaaayyy up top? huh I'm like Jedi and dont' get any recognition lol j/k..but if you drain the oil and it's ALL foamy there is a prob if there is just some on the dipstick it's ok...filled with "foam" is not right

This really scares me because I just sent my car into the shop today because it was misfiring. Haha, crap. I really hope something like this doesn't happen to my car, I just got it. But the recall thing seems legit, I wasn't aware of this. What was the reason for it?

Its just water on the dip stick, why does that scare you? What recall?

His issue is completely unrelated to the dip stick. The foamy dipstick shouldnt cause misfiring. The people above are only saying that she doesnt have water in her oil. The misfire is most likely the coils.

ok I see now, yea +1 on the coils

CyberPitz 12-12-2008 11:02 AM

Foamy dipstick + coils = cheap fix.

Joyfull 12-12-2008 06:23 PM
