2004 and a half model?

Hi folks,

I'm one of those who needs to wait about another year before I can afford to buy the car. Since I have to wait, I'm hoping the extra time will allow Mazda to fix whatever little issues/problems pop up with the first 2004 cars.

What will suck is that I'll probably be ready to buy early next summer, but I'll have to wait 'til September or October (?) before the 2005's come out. I'm wondering if carmakers start to fix problems (such as the much discussed A/C cycling or whatever) before the next model year. Will there be, in effect, a "2004.5" model RX-8?

If I knew the RX-8's that will be built later in the 2004 production run will address early problems, I might try to spring on a better deal on an '04 before the '05s arrive.

So far no problems with mine, so why wait?

I heard there was going to be a 3 to 4K price increase after the first of the year. I don't have any problems worth that much fixing.

Where did you hear that?

After picking up our car, our dealer told us that his first allocation took him trough November, and that he fully expected to see a significant increase in cost on subsequent allocations (Dec on). After he said that, I mentioned a few of the threads that I had read about Mazda possibly underpricing first year cars, and although he had not read the RX8 forum, he said that it sounded like the scenario he and many other dealers were preparing for. I guess only time will tell.

My dealer was also lead to believe there would be a significant price increase for the next model (2005) year.

A significant price increase will only result in a significant decrease in sales. But, who knows what the dollar/yen will be doing next year.
I want one, but won't pay in the mid 30's for an RX-8.
