Thank you. I wouldn't call it impossible; I am the second owner, I didn't know anything about the car when I bought it with about 105,000 miles in it. I added at least 65,000 miles before the reman-engine went in, it had an internal coolant leaked which cause the engine to loose compression after 14,000 miles when the leak started.

I do know that a few members have posted their numbers, one reaching it with it's original factory engine(that's quite a feat!) and the other guy just reached 200,000 miles then his engine seized a couple of miles later. Engine still feels strong, coils and plugs would have to be replaced soon, packing in the Cat blew off so I just gutted it; the rest are just routine maintenance, nothing special in the engine besides premixing.

Congrats! An accomplishment with this vehicle. I'm not going to get to that in my 8. 103K miles and I expect to be driving a replacement car this weekend. New engine needed in my 8....

thats awesome...I did have an RX7 1990 GXL that made it past 250,000+ miles completely stock...

Im amazed that an RX8 Series 1, past 200,000 miles considering its early reputation, well mostly on the 2004 models but still...

I currently have an 2010 RX8 GT...considering its pretty much the last model of the Series 2 (2011 are exactly the same as the 2010) hopefully it can past that...

And yes virtually ALL of the Series 2s are identical, not many changes at all, only some minor mods to some existing mechanical parts and some electronics, the 2012 made Spirit R had the most, but were cosmetic, nothing mechanical.

All S2 owners have a very rare Rotary, with no more than 17,372 worldwide, take away Spirit Rs which were not sold in NA,AU,EU, that leaves 15,241 worldwide.
About 11,000 for USA and Canada (NA).

Here is a 23 page PDF from Japan on the Mazda Rotary History for "The Press"...
Lots of information, including production numbers, note there was no more than about 17,000 Series II RX-8's ever made...making it one of the rare ones.

I got it at 48,456 miles back in October 2016...I'm at 62,896 miles now...love driving this thing...the 2010 and 2011 are exactly the same from the factory...the 2009 had a different metal composition for the pedals and ball joints, Also had 4 trim levels offered.



The best thing about the RX8 compared to my RX7 is that the engine actually sits lower and the car handles better!

jballway, I was wondering: is your cat converter still the factory original with 200K miles?
I'm asking because my car has 113K and sometimes I wonder whether the cat is still OK. No particular reason for my worrying, just curious...

65,416 to go on my Nordic Green GT that I'm restoring. Will be on the third engine as the original went bad at 75k and the current engine, which is a reman engine, went at 134k. Should have no problem hitting the 200k mile club in this car once its finished.

Just got my first RX8 a few days ago, 2004, needs some sprucing up but it is encouraging to see these high mileage cars. Thank you to all who posted your high mile stories.

Perhaps I'm missing something about this thread, but isn't the '200 milestone' really about achieving this on the original engine?

I'm not sure it's such an amazing achievement if you've had to replace the engine 5 times to get there....

I think its a bigger milestone to do it with the original engine with the original brakes, original tires, original oil, and first tank of gas, but some of these guys still got well over 100,000mi on the original engine, not bad.

I think the original intention was to see who could do 200k on the original motor but unfortunately that wasn't in the cards for many of us due to the engine recall / failures we experienced a few years after the vehicle's release.
I think it's still worthwhile to notate anyone who can put 200k on this chassis though as that's quite an accomplishment in its own regard.
