1st Time RX-8 Owner

Hello all, I just purchased a 2005 Rx-8 and just found this website as well. The dealer said it was rx-8 with Touring package. I don't know very much about these cars and was wandering exactly what I got. I test drove this baby and fell in love so I bought it. Also any advice on owning one of these sweet machines would be appreciated. I'll post some pictures after this weekend.

Peace

welcome to the club and enjoy your car. to start you off, check your oil level at least every other fill up. this engine loves to be in the high RPM range. As raizen82 said, read the FAQ and use the search tool on the forum before posting questions you have that may have already been post or answered. Have fun and drive safely.

Welcome.

Also go to the Mazda coproate web site. It will clearly tell what the differances are.

then when you finished head to the tech section here.

Then last hit the DIY section.

Of course don't forget the section to keep your interior and exterior in prime condition.

Welcome to the club. My RX-8 is 1 week old (2007 Touring) so I'll share a few of the things I've noticed.

First, read the FAQ's on this site at https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-faq-9/

1) Visibility is much worse than the '95 Honda Accord that the RX-8 replaced. It is very important to properly set your mirrors to eliminate blind spots. You may not realize it but the way most people set mirrors actually creates blind spots. In your typical 4-door sedan it doesnt matter since you have so much visibility through the rear windows when you turn your head.

Follow the directions in this website: http://www.linquist.net/motorsports/tech/mirrors/ and you'll be able to set up your mirrors so there are no blind spots in your RX-8

2) Set yourself up at mazdausa.com's owners website: http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/disp...ersHome.action
They have some nice stuff here like automatically notifying you of any recalls that apply to your car, maintenance logger, online manual, etc etc. Its a pretty decent resource.

3) Check your oil now. When I took delivery of my 8 the oil was at about 1/2 full. Each dot on the dipstick represents just under 0.5qt of oil. The FAQ on this site says to check the oil every other fillup.

4) Have fun! Even while babying the engine during the break-in period (I have been keeping it below 5k rpm or so and avoiding full throttle) you can really have some fun with the car. The stock brakes on the RX-8 are really really good. I would put them on par with the E46 M3 that my brother has.

5) There is a secret handle inside the trunklid so that you can close the trunk without getting your grubby fingerprints on the exterior of the car.

6) Get some winter wheels and tires at tirerack.com or discounttire.com

Hope that helps
