1st RX-8 in SLO, CA (central coast; my impressions)

Hi everyone:

Well, the day finally arrived. My dealer called me about 2:00pm this afternoon saying that my car was here! I am so happy to finally have it.

My Review:
I only purchased this car on the 19th of last month after visiting the forum here. I decided to see what the dealer had coming. He shared with me the six cars that they had coming. He had tried to sell two cars on ebay, but was getting bogus names for buyers, which I think was frustrating for him.

I have been driving a 1991 Geo Metro 4 door. for about four years now (just your cheap beater car to get kids around and go to work). The RX-8 is a huge step.

The car is quiet. I did kind of hit my head at first, when getting in. I have a bad ankle so, when getting in the back seat, I had to have the seat all the way forward to slide my toes under. Once in, I had room.

Man is this car waiting to be unleashed past the breakin of 4500 rpm's. I find it very quiet when driving. I set the cuise control at the 4500 mark in 6th (88 mph). I feel like I am crawling at 55 mph.
Just the slightest touch of the accelerator creates a beautiful tone of the motor under the hood. I could just push the pedal and then let up; off and on, to hear that sound - so sweet!!

I know that a dragon is waiting to open it's mouth once it is broken in......I wonder what it will sound like at 9K?

I have the GT with NAV - I like it, I like it. Voice commands are way cool. My car is black with black leather; an understatement but very classy IMO.

There are several tight curves here in Atascadero, near my home (lots of twisties everywhere really) so I had a chance to try the 50/50 weight distribution. I could not even reach the point where the tires would squeal.

This summer I have my 14 yr old daughter, 16 and 19 yr old nephews helping in the office. They where having the best time watching me get my new car today. I let the nephews drive it the evening. It was fun to see there reaction to driving a new car. Both liked the feel of the transmission. The 19 yr old says he thinks he'll like the 9K when it's broken in too.

I own a 2001 Neon R/T. I like the stereo better in it than the RX-8. The RX-8 lacks the full sound of bass and highs that I hear in my other car. My nephew says I should look into Crutchfields, replacement components for cars. We typed in RX-8 on the web and they have nothing listed as of yet. That's about the only thing I think could be better.

Lots of people look at this car. The RX-8 is a great success! Thank you Mazda.

I'll up-load some pics but I don't know how to link several pics in the same posting.

This has been a great day!!!

infinity jealous = ME

beautiful car...and beautiful color combo.

Keep the Metro around for a Winter beater or as an "auto-cross" car.

Beater car in the low tens.

Lofty goals for this baby

...let's see...sway bars would be a start since it leans on every corner.

Think I'm going for the electrical upgrade as this other fellow did with "Project Geo".

....This thing is gonna be a sleeper.

Can you imagine going 150 mph in it?
