192,000 miles
On the way home this week there was a gray RX8 on the side of the road with the hood up so I stopped to see if I could help. The battery cable had corrosion and we were able to slide it off clean it up with a pocket knife and push it just enough to get it down the road so he could fix it when he got home.
Don't recall if it was an 04 or 05, but he puts over 1000 miles a week on it with frequent trips across country. This is the first time he's been stranded and said he'll probably trade it in next week or so on something new (not sure what yet). Except for the following it's original; (2) clutches (2) AC compressors (3) Condensors (no screens) Oil Cooler hose set "Intake Valves" - his biggest beef was the $2200 cost for this at about 130,000 miles (as most folks should know he was referring to the manifold system to open the last set of ports) Exhaust system & Cat Rear Wheel Bearings Water Pump (2 sets) Brake Rotors Nose paint Basic maintenance Valvoline oil (non synthetic) every 4000 miles - burns about a quart every 2000 miles RX7 plugs every 15000 miles (said that after 15,000 gas mileage would drop off about 2 MPG) Full dealer service every 50,000 miles (kind of an annual do whatever it needs) His driving is about 95% highway cruises 70-80 MPH most of the time. Motor idles smooth and he said it still felt very strong. He's stayed off redline for about a year but punts it to 7500 several times a day. Says the transmission has gotten pretty "loose" and "scrapes" on gearchanges. Other little things like window motors sunroof binding/rattles and switches have broken at high mileage he felt was normal. Overall it cost him a lot less to drive 200,000 miles then his previous car (300Z) cost to operate, gas included - even though gas had gone up over the years. It's good to know these cars can have a very long life. |
Thank you very much! Its nice to know :)

what a good deed!

That could've been LambertRX8 from near Cullman Alabama. Last I heard he was well above 100k.
But if it was him, he used 87 octane. |
192k in 2-3 years.... damn that's a lot of miles, for any car!!
192,000 must be the record. Can someone find out if he is Lambert?
thatz awsome to know!
Has to be the most miles on ANY 8. Nice
I'd be happy with 50,000
this thread makes me feel a little better about my 8......
This is good to know.... Just take care of the car and it will take care of you.. :)
Now thats one engine I would like to open up and check the wear on. I really wonder how tall the apex seals are and how much housing edge wear or flaking is present.
On comment with this thread, wheres Expo1 when you need him most...
But… but… how is that possible?? I mean, what about engine replacements??? According to the "engine replacement" thread, sooner or later all Renesis engines are doomed to failure; he should be on his third of fourth engine by now. I don't get it.
 |
the engine failure thread is just speculation
sounds like the 192000 dude was pretty good
Sounds like methanol injection is the way to go to prevent the intake lockup (or an oil catch can) |
thanks for posting this. I too feel better already!
192,000!!! Thats awesome! I've just logged 90,000 in my 04. 102,001 to go! knock on woood!
