15.51 gal fillup today

There is one RX-8 performance record that can only be tied: Fuel used between fillups.

Almost pushed it too far today...

How big is our tank? The most I've done is 14 I think.

15.9 gals I believe. That was close HIX8 !! What was your milage on the last tank? I got the "N" reflash in April and am consistantly getting 22mpg with 85% Hwy usage.

Great,
Jeff B.

I've logged every fill-up since December 2003. Most I've put in was 14.526.

As I understand, total capacity is 15.9, with a tank capacity of 15.4. Warning light should come on with approx 2 gallons remaining.

Cheers,
Oranje

I've been consistently getting 15-16mpg with the N-flash(*). Today's tank was 15.4 mpg. (About one tenth of that on the highway.)

I've run out of gas one time in the 8. That was about a year and a half ago when I got a nasty surprise to find out how severely limited the post-amber range of this car is. So learning the hard way, I have a feel for how far I can push the miles.

For today's fillup, the pump shut off at 15.3 gallons, but then I topped it off.

=======
*Edit: Correction, I have the M-flash, not the N-flash.

As you may have guessed, I prefer to get maximum range between visits to the gas station. I will typically add more gas after the first shutoff. Two things I avoid when doing this are:

- Backsplash out of the tank, and
- Overfill where gas runs into the internal drain line.

Neither of these problems happened with that 15.51, and it is rare that either ever happens to me. (Although learning how much was too much came with several mistakes.)

If you've spent time in the Navy like your name indicates, then I'm sure you're intimately familiar with how regulations are targeted to the least common denominator. Until I learn of some other problem with topping off my tank, I plan to continue packing these extra few miles of range on board.

They tell you when you get it done. It's been so long ago for me that I had almost forgotten.

My low fuel light came on for the first time yesterday. I put another 20 miles or so on it after it came on. When I filled up it took 13.7 gallons. I was a little worried, but I guess that I didn't need to be.

$1.97 a gallon? ... Cheap! I paid nearly a buck a gallon more than that not very long ago.

We still complain about the price of gas here. I guess it's all relative.
