I'm 6'3". 265 pound bodybuilder. Fit fine in the car with the moonroof. Not an issue with the seat layed back. Thats how I like to drive anyway. Like a pimp!

I bet Mazda has had so much of its resources tied up in getting the new CX7 & CX9 out the door that they haven't had the time or resources to do a major redesign of the 8. Mazda has gone back to focusing on its bread and butter cars and trucks to strengthen the lineup. Thanks for the reality check...I'll just have to wait and see what the up and comming changes bring us. Mazda needs to focus on becoming a better car company overall and not just a sports car builder. As....painful as that is to admit... I'm not particularly worried about the 8 somehow being negected or dropped. We've seen a variety of rotary concepts that show the engine is very much alive and being refined. Expect to see a all aluminum DI engine within the next three years. |

That would be very cool...but I'm not very technical with the Rotary, why have they not built a aluminum rotary before? I know it runs pretty hot and it's a softer metal (while it can be made strong) but wouldn't it help cooling also? I'm not sure why its taken this long to make it all aluminum, I'm sure in the begining it was a technical issue with the metals, but now I know they can do it (as they have shown in concept cars and Racing Beat has 13B aluminum housings, I'm sure it just costs more. One problem with a sandwich design of different metals is the warping issue due to the two metals expanding at a different temps. Being 50lb lighter doesn't hurt either. Mazda has to be successful with its bread and butter cars first and foremost. If that means we take a backseat for two years so be it. Its the bread and butter cars that pay for the RX's and Miata's. |
I love the fact that the '05 I bought in February will be just as up-to-date as a new '07. Suddenly my car feels one year younger! (Or maybe it's more accurate to say suddenly my car doesn't feel one year older!)

i feel the same way, my 04 will look as new for another year... it'd be cool to see changes, but im close to paying my car off and at this point, just hope the rotary survives. even if they add more HP, i'd be happy for mazda, but im not losing sleep over the lack of changes. I think the new colors will be cool anyhow. my next rotary will be the next RX -?? anyways (hope there is one). |
That stormy blue is really nice, almost like the strato blue. Darn, i want the stormy blue rx8, it would be close to my dream of having a mazdaspeed rx8 ver2. *sigh*

Not that ally can't be done, but my bet it would have some side effects. BTW, does anyone know if the 6=speed automatic for the 2007 is a planetary gear setup or an adaptation of the 6-speed manual? |

Its probably cost related why the rotaries arent made of better metals than iron... It costs Mazda a lot to produce the renesis already, they cant afford to use better materials and price the car at this level. Maybe when they start putting the renesis in more cars, then we'll see these improvments.
