04 rx8 vs 03 mitsubishi eclipse

not sure what type of eclipse it is, but is there any possible way that a stock eclipse of any type could beat an 04 rx8 with borla catback exhaust in a drag race?

Nemesis8 04-29-2006 06:27 PM

Why are you double posting?

joshk118 04-29-2006 06:28 PM

because i saw that nobody was viewing the racing forum when i posted it

LostAngel 04-29-2006 06:29 PM

I posted in your thread in the racing forum....

joshk118 04-29-2006 06:31 PM

oh ok my bad.

chr1s 04-29-2006 06:32 PM

who cares?

RX8SaxMan 04-29-2006 06:41 PM

Go for the calamari.

Ike 04-29-2006 06:46 PM

Haha! Pontiac Eclipse > RX-8

2Xrotary 04-29-2006 06:46 PM

I own an 04 RX8 and a 03 Eclipse GT. The Eclipse in no way will take the 8. Mine has some motor work done and I still dont think it will touch the 8.

NoTears316 04-29-2006 06:59 PM

Does your friend have any stickers on his Eclipse? This could play a big role in a race with him. Especially if any of them say VTEC or R Type. If it says ECLIPSE in real big letters across his front or back window, you are in big trouble.

Ike 04-29-2006 07:17 PM

Wait, I just saw you have a catback exhaust. I take back what I said earlier, you'll crush him!

NoTears316 04-29-2006 07:21 PM

Well, if his friend has a spoiler on his front wheel drive Eclipse, it would once again give the Mitsu the advantage.

prescriptionmazda 04-29-2006 07:41 PM

ahaha, you guys kill me! :yelrotflm

stickman 04-29-2006 07:42 PM

Eclipse = lead weight, even the new one with the six won't do it.

We all know that, I think he might be talking about something else... :suspect:

prescriptionmazda 04-29-2006 08:03 PM

no no no, just cheese sandwiches, and the tastyness levels that cars make them at.

NoTears316 04-29-2006 08:08 PM

Well, if you "magazine race" these cars, the 8 wins hands down. 2003-2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT: 210 hp @ 5750 rpm(Spyder), 0-60 mph : 7.2 sec. Even the 2007 with its 260 lb-ft of torque and 263 hp, only goes 0-60 in about 7 seconds. In real life, it's a driver's race.

The new one is actually about 6 seconds...

joshk118 04-29-2006 08:28 PM

k so if i get a good launch, how much should my tires spin, if any at all??? and what is the RPM to rev up to before i drop the clutch? and do i turn off traction control and DSC?

NoTears316 04-29-2006 08:29 PM

Which site do we magazine race the 2007 from?

0 - 60: 5.8 sec

0 - 60: 6.5 sec

0 - 60: 6.9 sec

You've got a catback, no need to turn traction control off or even rev much before you blow his doors off.

Why are you using vert times and why are you calling it a 2007?

joshk118 04-29-2006 08:34 PM

this will be on a drag strip, so its ok right?

Nope, you're going to get banned, you had better delete this thread.

That's for established members, if you haven't been on the site for at least a year talk of racing in a straight line is off limits.

chr1s 04-29-2006 08:45 PM

lets get back to the topic on hand....cheese sandwiches.

NoTears316 04-29-2006 08:49 PM

mmmm... how does bread and cheese taste so damn good?

thank you.

The simple fact is the 8 makes incredibly tasty cheese sandwiches, if you want better, you have to upgrade to the turbo.

NoTears316 04-29-2006 08:57 PM

The Mazdaspeed version is a double decker cheese sandwich covered in chili...

prescriptionmazda 04-29-2006 08:58 PM

That looks pretty good right about now...

stickman 04-29-2006 09:00 PM

With equal drivers the Eclipse should lose to the rx8 because it is so heavy. Now, if the rx8 driver has eaten a lot of cheese sandwiches, all bets are off. If the race isn't in a straight line, even the cheese sandwiche eating rx8 driver wins. Besides that, in a cheese sandwhich cookoff, the rx8 wins because it throws off more heat. Tastes great and goes fast too!

Now that has the potential to start a grease fire on your plate.

one might argue that a slow-cooked grilled cheese is superior...

not arguing, just proposing...

Superior? not likely, on your plate faster, no.

SlayerRX8 04-30-2006 03:19 AM

If you want to win, make sure you slap on a Honda badge for a Billion horsepower.

NoRx8 04-30-2006 08:40 AM

I also wonder why you care if you can beat the Eclipse. It's not your race to win. Leave him for the boy racers in their Civics or, better, a Neon SRT-4. To me, the Rx-8 is more about the driving experience; your connection to a lonely twisty road or a brisk peppy sprint through the canyons. To me, the Rx-8 is more about the driver/car relationship and testing one's technical abilities.

Speaking of Elipsai (plural for Eclipse), that new '06 model is so not a sports car! Sure, it has a fast engine (but so does my '73 Road Runner), but it wasn't built to handle at all... What ever happened to the AWD? Guess it's better to compromise and the price reflects it. Yet for some reason, it's still considered a "sports car". It's pretty, I'll give you that, but seems to lack a styling maturity. It seems excess for the sake of excess, like the proverbial "stripper" look (augmented body parts, anorexic, bleached hair). No, give me the sophistication and maturity of Catherine Zeta Jones. Give me the Rx-8. Function AND form...

Yeah, leave the poor Eclipse alone.

Rootski 04-30-2006 09:20 AM

Cheese sandwiches PWN in the twisties!

me too, I demand that you change it back.

and speaking of not being built to handle, actually from what I have heard is that it torque steers almost constantly, I believe it is most commonly refered to as a deathtrap.
