04 RX8 Auto Turbo????'s

I found a 04 Auto turbo. Car is fully loaded with Nav. and everything you can possibly get on it. It also has the Magnaflow cat-back as well. It is running about 6psi of boost. My ? is I am hearing a chingy sound around 5-6K but the pull is fine then t starts to miss like it's loading up on fuel. I can get the car for around $19K since a friend of mine works at the dealer. Car has around 17K miles on it. I also notice that the engine light was on as well. Not sure on what kind of turbo it has on it but I did see the intercooler on it as well. What do you all thing of this good or bad? This would be my 3rd "8" that I have owned. The turbo caught my wifes eye! I guess I trained her well. :cwm27:

I would not even think about it in its present condition.

A turbo isn't the best choice on an AT, and I'm no tuning expert, but that sounds like the engine pinging. I wouldn't buy it if I were you.

Unless the Dealer is willing to give you a full warrenty on the car forget about it. Not worth the gamble especialy if you yourself dont know how to upkeep the car or dont know people.

Caveat emptor

Well I was wondering if the dealer would be liable. They are going to take care of the check engine light. My other concern is the pinging sound in the upper RPM area. I am wondering if the last owner got a tune done on the car? Overall the car is in great shape. The dealer was going to put it back into service to give it a going over then let me know why the check engine light was on. What is the hp on a turboed auto? I had a 6spd and miss it alot now. I have been driving my friends 04 auto since it was sitting for a LONG time and once I got into the turbo auto it felt nice to have some power in an auto.

I doubt the numbers are very high - plus you can't know how much power a car will put down if you say "it's an automatic transmission and it has a turbo". Tell the dealer to pay for a dyno, check the results because you were curious, then walk away and don't buy the car.

The highest I've seen from a Turbo AT is only 202whp, as seen here https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...4&page=5&pp=15

yeah sure go ahead. buy some guy's used aftermarket turbo car where you noticeably hear problems with the engine when revving. sounds like a great idea.

maybe you should train your wife to use common sense.

Thanks for your input. But the comment on the wife part was she saw the turbo and that got her attention. She did not drive the car. I was not sure if that car just would need a tune or not thus the main reason for posting hear. But no biggie. She would rather have a GTO for more power and better mileage then the 16 mpg that we are getting right now. So I may just get rid of the one that I have now for the GTO instead.
