So yeah, looks like he'd be able to easily walk over you in a stock MT RX-8.

stock with CAI:

Are you saying SOME people actually get MORE HP then they paid for??? Holy Heck! Mazda, are you READING this? SOME car makers ACCURATELY rate their car's engine's HP....others still CHARGE you for 205hp, but GIVE you something like 250. Yet Mazda seems content to 'sell' 232 HP but only deliver about 215. :(

You either need to learn to appreciate the RX-8 for what it is or go trade it in... There are a lot of cars out there that are faster or pretty damn close to a stock RX-8, if that really bugs you then you bought the wrong car. Hell, even if you added a Greddy kit you'd still see taillights on cars like the Cobalt SS SC and SRT-4 if they just have a few basic boltons.

tjbourgoyne 10-26-2006 12:29 AM

Street racing is a major faux pax here.

sunilseru 10-26-2006 12:31 AM

The Cobalt SS is a pretty good car for a FWD. The build quality might be crappy, but it is a good performer. I drove one at the Chevy Rev-it-up event. I was impressed.

Buy a WRX STI, EVO or Z if you want more power. Don't you know your own car or read the board?

You need to keep up on your sporty cars. The Cobalt SS is a killer starting around $20K.

Amen are car handles with power but not in a straight line, why else are they making all the turbos and superchargers....those dont help in the twisties.

allmotorRX8 10-26-2006 01:25 AM

trade it in for something faster if its "so frustrating"...

JoeyG6 10-26-2006 01:38 AM

my question is,
would he have won if his 8 was supercharged or turbo'd?

Agreed--I think an 8 really isn't his type of car.

That depends on how much power the car is making...

Renesis_8 10-26-2006 01:51 AM

That torque curve is flatter than the RX-8 =D

V Vette 10-26-2006 05:03 AM

That POS is a fast car.. Be careful, ugly wins sometimes....

rodrigo67 10-26-2006 06:31 AM

ok, for all you anti front wheel drive nuts. I wouldn't put to much into the rear wheel drive thing these days. A rsx -s beat out 10 rx8's in the grand am cup a few weeks ago and the new lightning lap that car and driver use's for total performance on the virginia inter. speedway had a cobalt SS finish half a sec behind the rx8. Thats half a sec behind with front wheel dirve. Obviously this car handles almost just as well as the 8.

Also, the SS engine is way over engineered. The lowest number I hear you can get out of it without internal upgrades is pushing 450 hp. Like it or not, Gm did an outstanding job on the cobalt...

Imidazole 10-26-2006 06:32 AM

Yes I have a MT. lol.

Classic replies. Meh, so he was faster in a straight line. I guess thats probably all he's got... speed.

DOMINION 10-26-2006 06:35 AM

Street racing is bad umm k

get off the streets doing 125. take it to a track and then realize again that we don't have straight line power. either take him to an autoX or get another car. and by all means STAY OFF THE STREETS.

it was implied by your 'visibility, time, conditions' line. if you were on the track i say get off the strip and take it through the twisties where you'll stand a chance.

If he just had a stage1 or stage2 on the SS, then a 290whp greddy rx-8 would beat him. However they are able to make 300+ on the SS too, in which case you're back to where you started stock to stock, with the SS running away from you.

DOMINION 10-26-2006 07:09 AM

Yeah its round and round. Once more a thread that leads into;"the RX-8 is not a 1/4 mile car" and "Take him in the twisties "

Absinthe 10-26-2006 07:09 AM

Not sure if this is something most people have seen, but:

Track Times:
BMW M3 = 350Z = RX8

dom-

you're right, it does get old. and yet every week you will see someone else posting that they got smoked off the line. i wish i could see a day in the future where people realize what this car is and isn't and enjoy what they have but i know that's not in the cards.

btw, interesting shot. not sure if it's a repost but i hadn't seen it.
