power steering not working after REW swap

Hi Folks,
I just completed an REW swap on my series one rx8.

For some reason the power steering doesnt work.

I have checked all connections, checked all wiring for continuity, done the power steering reset procedure and also the 20 stomp brake pedal ecu reset.

I am using an FD front cover with the FFE crank trigger kit with the renesis wheel.

Also my ABS light and stability control lights (Im assuming the stability control light is on because I am using the FD throttle body) are always on.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you fix it ?

Any help would be appreciated as I am at a loss to figure out what is going on,
Thanks.

Have you pulled all of the codes? Ever since I bridge-ported the motor, DSC and traction control have not worked. I believe its related to the high MAF voltage reading at idle because it worked when I was street-ported with an 800 rpm idle....

As far as power steering, I used the rx8 front cover, rx8 trigger wheel, rx8 CPS, and rx8 throttle body, and I have never had any problem with the power steering functioning.

I also left my rx8 oil metering pump plugged in and mounted the unit to my driver shock tower.

The ECU is real finicky. For instance, I have my stock rx8 MAP sensor plugged into the factory harness without a vacuum line connected. If I connect a vacuum line the car will run like absolute garbage.

If I had to guess, your ECU is not seeing the proper signal from your trigger wheel combo/throttle body and not energizing the system. I believe this issue has been discussed before... Do you still have a MAF connected to the system?

Thanks for the reply mate.
I have the FD throttle body, FD front cover, FFE trigger kit and rx8 crank sensor.
I am also using the air temp sensor wires on the harness (the plug that plugs into the rx8 throttle body) with an FD temp sensor.

No I dont have the MAP sensor connected, I also dont have the omp connected either.

I have tried the codes and their are no codes showing which is weird, I used the torque app and it doesnt see any codes.

I will try and plug in the omp and see if I can get my hands on a MAP sensor and plug that in also.
Thanks Again, Ill let you know how I go.

Does the FFE trigger kit have the same wheel pattern as the rx8 trigger wheel? If not, i'm 90% sure that is your issue. I'm pretty sure that has been discussed on this forum in the past. I'm sure Danno will chime in on this issue, he seems to know just about everything about this swap...

When I ordered the FFE kit, I got the renesis wheel option.

I might order the Promaz cas sensor adapter, it allows you to use a stock rx8 renesis trigger wheel, i think that might be the problem.

I also noticed (I am using the adaptronic select rx8 ecu) that when the car hit the rev limiter on the dyno (6000 rpm, emissions tune) the tacho would stop working for an few seconds.

Looks like a can issue. What ecu are you using

I have this same issue with my swap. Rew front cover, rx8 ffe wheel, rx8 throttle body and maf. I have the modular tho. I haven’t pulled codes but I will soon. Ps light, abs light and traction light are illuminated on mine

@Max, I am using the adaptronic plug and play ecu.

@Joe, same lights on my dash too, power steering (not working) abs and traction light all illuminated.

I bought the promaz cas adapter bracket. I did what Simon told me, re drilled the stock renesis trigger wheel 90 degrees counter clockwise and the car barely started and ran very poorly, I tried it at 45 degrees counter clockwise, it ran slightly better but still poorly.

I talked with my mate/tuner today, he said that he will probably have to re zero the ecu's timing to suit the renesis trigger wheel.

When I contacted Adaptronic about the ecu file for my car, I told him it has the ffe trigger wheel so I assume they set it up for that, now when I try using the stock renesis trigger wheel its out of sync.

An interesting thing though, I am pretty sure it is the ffe trigger wheel as the teeth are offset about 45 degrees clockwise from the stock renesis trigger wheel so the area of the wheel that has missing teeth (my mate told me that the ecu uses these areas as as reference) are in a different spot compared to the stock renesis wheel.

I will first get the car through emissions and then later on try and get the promaz/stock renesis wheel working.

Just a note though, if buying the promaz bracket, make sure to put a washer under the cas sensor as the sensor is too close to the wheel, it wore a hole through my cas sensor, had to get another one today.

Wich adaptronic? Select or modular

ratm 07-18-2018 09:02 PM

Its the adaptronic select
